Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Have any of you coaches faced a defense that keeps a five man front mainly versus a 7 tech. I am interested in your backside read. Have you read the 7 or do you read the EMLOS? And, does anybody have any diagrams? When we keep 2 backs in the backfield, defenses keep 7 and 8 in the box because we haven't been able to pass very well and its sometimes versus a five man front. Any suggestions?
Seen Utah with a scheme against this type of look (sort of, more of a straight 5-2 look) where they take the tackle and block out on the EMLOS (DE) instead of pulling him, then they would read the defensive tackle on some type of zone play, or something to that regard, if the QB gets a pull read, then he ducks up inside of the offensive tackles out block on the EMLOS.
In the Utah video that I've been studying, when running their version of Gun Triple, they read the backside EMLOS. The entire line zones for the dive back and the EMLOS is read by the QB. If he chases down the LOS the QB pulls and proceeds to the pitch read (the next defender to show). If the EMLOS sits or widens, it's give everytime. Very effective as long as your OLinemen and backs understand the zone blocking concept and how to look for creases.
Reading the DE outside the TE is just along way to go for the QB and it is easier for the DE to make a play because of the space. Is there anybody out there that reads the 7 technique? Agree or disagree?
Just a thought, but what about having the tackle kick step and then base or just base the 7 tech. (also get a false pass read with a kick step) with QB reading the ILB, still zoning down the playside line with the back reading A gap window. I don't know, we've been experimenting in theory for situations where we could read the LB and block the DE from the gun in order to change up the assignment responsibilities they have on defense or take advantage of something they have developed. I'm assuming too that this is an even front. I would say the guard on the read side has the key block - "wheel him or wash him".
I guess it would be a similar scheme in theory as the midline that Coach E addressed.
