Try to package similar techniques with different schemes?
For example - This is something we have done with success. Two back TE right. Run Counter to the strong side (gap down blocking for the right side guys) and Iso or inside Zone left side ("scooping" scheme to the same gaps for the guys on the right side)?
For the right side guys, they have the same initial steps and punches, just thier follow through is different - (because of the different initial point of attack - counter rt, zone left)unless the zone weak cuts back, then thier blocks are almost identical to that of counter.
what is the backfield action like? I've seen something like this before,
I would think you are starting zone to the left with the fullback and tailback then the QB hands over the top to tailback going right, like a designed cutback.
I think you have it. On zone QB opens left, both backs left. Tb can run it left or cut it back to the right.
On counter, QB opens left, both backs lt - FB fills weak B gap area, LG LT pull,. TB takes his three zone steps left (although a bit shorter steps than on zone) pounds hard to cut off left foot, and recieves the handoff over the top of QB (left arm up) and attacks strong B gap area.
If the zone works well left, pursuit picks up from the right, opens the counter huge. Especially if your TB likes to grind out zone playside. Can also run iso weak instead of zone.
In the play you described above you are not pulling linemen like you would on a normal counter play right? The line (left side) is just blocking like they would for zone or ISO.
Yeah I've seen alot of schemes where the line and back show zone action one way only to have the back cut it back.
