Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
you can still run inside veer and outside veer. a clinic i went to discussed this. on outside veer, if the ot and te are covered they give a two-dude call where the tackle will block the 5 and the te will block the 9. the blocking back goes outside to find lb and pitch man is the rover.

I don't know about the best way, but you could run zone with the lead back blocking the DE/OLB. I also like zone option to the 1 receiver side with your QB reading the DE/OLB for pitch keep. The lead back can arc release looking for a fast scraping ILB or up to the FS. I like inside trap if you can get your tackles releasing inside. Dive /Draw also. When they play you this way they I feel they are weak to the quick hitters inside. You want to know what they are trying to do with the DE/OLB's. Are they in a soft walkaway position? Are they rushing all the time on pass. If the DE to the one receiver side is always rushing, work the 1 receiver choice routes. That is one reason why I always put my best guy at the single receiver side. Quick game works well if they are in a base cover 3 look. If they are in a 2 deep shell, then the DE has to walk out on #2 or you have an uncovered situation.
If you block the DE and he is the EMLOS, then you have not run the OUTSIDE VEER OPTION as he is your read man. If you block him, then you have a PREDERTERMINED PLAY, not an option, agreed?

ADDED THOUGHT: If you pitch off the rover (ss) and have eliminated the DE as the read man, you are not running the triple option now, (ISV-OSV) but a double option in the outer one third of the field. A diffferent play all together in my opinion. Just my opinion as always.

Good question. We're working on that too. The weakside end probably has the back out of the backfield and will widen with him (the tackles will be B gap). In a three deep zone he also has the flats. If they put the ss to the field, then put your twins into the boundary.
I like fish's idea of working the fly sweep. I also like the idea of shovel option to that weakside end. (That's one reason why we're installing both of those plays this year). Also a slant to the split end with the back flaring out of the backfield to widen the end. In general, play with the weakside end because of his multiple responsibilities. We rarely keep our backs in the backfield against a 52 because the ends will peel with the back (we pass block him by our release).
If they're putting the ss to the field then they'll most likely go into a cover 2 with your twins into the boundary (if not then the boundary is a good place to be). By flaring both backs, you could possibly account for both ends and the corners with your backs. That leaves the middle of the field open for your slot (or the boundary sideline for your receiver).
I'd have to think a bit more about man/man free coverage. The two teams we play that run the 52 (and they run it with precision) are zone based so we've been working on it already.
If you block the DE and he is the EMLOS, then you have not run the OUTSIDE VEER OPTION as he is your read man. If you block him, then you have a PREDERTERMINED PLAY, not an option, agreed?

two-dude is a call at the los. the pitch read becomes safety or corner.
