Just got back from WVU. I was looking through some cutups out of a two back set and saw something very similar to what you're talking about (not blocking the DT but the D-End). I looked at it as a gun variation of the I formation inside zone. In the I, the fullback/H back goes backside to set the "high wall" for the inside zone play. In the gun, the blocking back crossed in front of the mesh to set the backside "high wall" and the QB kept it. I wonder if you couldn't have the QB read the backside LB for fast flow ... for the give/keep. The other intersting spin would be to naked boot with this action and have the blocking back run the flats, just like out of the I.
