How many of you use a good bit of option with the wing-t. We currently run some belly option and some counter option, however we would like to incorporate more and I was just looking to start some discussion on the option as a part of the wing-t. Thanks in advance!
Run midline and veer out of red/blue. That's how you take the Wing-T to the next level. Now they have to stop misdirection and triple option (which in a large sense is misdirection). In my opinion, that's the best way to play football.

That is something that I would love to do! However it is going to take a boat load of convincing to get our head coach to run the triple. I am breaking him in slowly last year we ran a lot of belly and counter option, a little bit of speed option. I am in the process of putting in the down option and the trap option which he can handle because it is not a true triple read it is more of a loaded option the way we are going to run it. Baby steps!
Coach Cella, Do you run the wing t? If so, do you run the triple and Midline as just another series, or have you gone primarily to the triple and midline? Do you continue to run the more traditional wing t series? ie Belly, Buck, Down, Counter, Jet
Coach, the best way to combine the Midline and the Wing-T is by using the following system:
10 series (Option)- Midline, Veer, Veer Pass 20 series (Sweep)- Sweep, Dive, Waggle 30 series (Power)- Power, Reverse, Power Pass 80 series- 3-step drop 90 series- 5-step roll
When I ran the Jet series we ran Jet, Dive (you can also use Trap), Belly, Reverse, Power, Counter, and Waggle. In my opinion, you really only need the Jet, Dive, Belly, Reverse, and Waggle. If you run Jet to the TE side, you will want to use Down instead of Belly. I would look further to discussing this, if necessary.

Coach Cella, Our series go like this: 10- counter, criss cross, counter option 20- belly, down, belly pass, belly and down option 30- Jet, jet trap 40- Buck, Trap, Waggle, trap option 90- 3 step and Roll out
We are very traditional wing t, (without the delaware numbering system) We have a very solid 3 step and sprint out game, and do a very good job with our options We do not run any triple or midline option

Coach,
We have done exactly what Coach Cella stated, we make the wing-t that much better by adding the triple and midline options. We added triple option two seasons ago and midline this past season. These have been a great addition to our offense and we haven't lost much of our base offense. We start with triple and midline teaching and move on to buck series/jet series, then belly/down series. We use jet motion in almost our entire offense so it is not hard to install. I was a traditional wing-t coach for six years and was not too sure about option, now I'm loving it and glad it is part of the package.
as for formations we use red/blue(double slot or SE/slotback TE/WB)We use a lot of Navy, Georgia Southern and Air force principles. Flexbone or Spread option has been a great teaching tool to add to the wing-t. Good luck.
I have coached the wing-T for only one year, but as I understand it, one of the greatest assets of the offense is the ability to make several plays look the same for the first few steps (at least in the backfield0. It seems to me, that down option puts the force player in a LOT of conflict if you are able to make that play go. The DE or OLB would have responsibility for squeezing the kick out block on the down, yet must also be aware of the option if you run both down and down option, and yet, both plays might look the same if you run it with the PSG pulling and kicking out on down, and pulling and logging on down option.
