I know that most people on this site would probably use 2 foot splits on options. but after watching South lake Carrol the Texas 5 a champs, I was wondering if anybody uses condensed splits as they do. I am considering putting together a shotgun offense where we will do a lot of pulling with the guards on inside and outside traps as well as tackles on ctr tre's. In your opinions how badly would the stretch read and dart plays be compromised with such a small split? my idea right now is to just use one foot splits
Joe Bugel uses 6' splits at times, and he is a pretty good coach! Considered the best line coach in the NFL! Russ Gibbs and Andy Gibbs are pretty good too.

In my opinion, if you plan on trapping and using the Dart type plays than you would be severely hurting yourself by going to 6'' splits. Now, if you could get to where we are tring to go but have not gotten to exactly and have your O-Line adjust their splits according to the play called then you can use those 6'' splits on Zone plays where those types of splits would be helpful. I t would seem to me that if a team did a pretty decent job of playing your traps than there would be very little room for the RB. We like to expand our splits when we run traps and Darts. Just my opinion.
NDOC, Your right, of course. My statement was a generalization about Joe Bugel. I would not recommend a 6" split to run the plays mentioned either. Should have made myself more clear.
