I teach toes pointing straight ahead as stated above, but have a question about relative foot placement... toes on same line or one foot back slightly? I teach toes on same line. Any comments?
For an o-line stance, no more than a heel to toe stagger is what we teach. This would be applicable to d-linemen most of the time as well. Of course, if a player is player is more comfortable without a stagger then that's perfectly acceptable too. If you ever happen to sit in on a clinic session with Rob Ryan (the Raven's DC) you owe it to yourself (and everyone else in the room) to ask him what his philosophy is on stances - I promise you'll never forget the analogy he'll use! Let's just say that Coach Ryan believes whatever works and is comfortable for the player is a good stance for him...
