I'm a flexbone guy who wants to put in a gun package for my QB next year. I want to run IV, Mid, Speed and Jet out of the flexbone gun. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on blocking rules and backfield actions for these plays. Trick is, I don't want to zone it. We are an under center option team and I don't want to teach our kids zone progression. I think it's too much for them. Can anyone offer any help.
Coach, get a copy of Tony Demeo's book Coaching the Shotgun Triple Option. His version of the option out of the gun is much closer to what it sounds like you're looking for. Good luck.
Coach - what are you thoughts on running midline out of the gun? Is it possible to run to a 3 tech? What are the particulars? I've thought about this but haven't found much info out there...
a lot of people are trying to find ways to run the mid as well. to get the quick hit that the mid gives you i think you'd have to read a 3 or a 4 for the give/keep. i also think that the qb should step into the snap to time the mesh.
If my answers frighten you, then you should cease asking scary questions.
Coaches, Have you thought about reading the frontside end on a fb trap to the backside. It gives you different look than IV out of the gun. I have not seen true midline run out of the gun yet. I think he line splits would need to be expanded to four to five feet if thje dt goes to a 1 or 2i auto pull and replace.
