coaching points on zone-read mesh ??

We're looking at putting in a limited spread gun option package this year, and while i have learned a ton form the board, i was hoping to get some specific ideas/coaching points on the footwork and teaching of the backfield mesh on the zone read as it seems (to me at least) to be the fundamental basis of most of the gun run scheme.

I know that with the standard triple option, there are differing opinions regarding whether or not to ride the fullback or to point the ball and pull it depending on the read. At first thought, it would seem to me that in the gun zone-read mesh it might be advantageous to ride the mesh as you have a bit more time and space to really get a good read on the BS DE, but thought i'd ask you guys that have taught it for years.

Also, how do you keep your RB's from flattening out along the LOS too much after the handoff, or is this what you want from the back? My thoughts are that i'd like to keep the back a little more north/south for easier cutback...am i on base here? I've watched as much film as i can get over the past couple of months and the Utah backs seem to do this pretty well....is it done through alignment (i believe they are a yard behind the QB and behind the OG as opposed to behind the OT) or is it more a result of their footwork ?
