Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I would love to be able to see a copy of those playbooks. Have you every ran the 3-4. What was your philosphy behind the scheme? What were your keys on blitzing? Here is my email if you would like it. bdavey@adams50.org.
Thanks for all your help

Coach Cella,
If you have the time and wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate seeing your book. We run the 3-4 and need to get a run and pass blitz package- your materials would help me.
I'm at richard_heckman@glenbard.org
Thanks!
quote: Originally posted by: Lou Cella We have a blitz for every player. Our blitzes are only run in cover 1 (or 0 depending on formation)
Whip- The Weak Inside Linebacker blitzes to the strong A gap and the noseguard slants to the weak A gap. The free safety covers the 1st RB out the weak side.
Go- A whip (all rules apply) with the strong inside linebacker blitzing to the strong B gap--the defensive ends slants to the C gap. The free safety covers the 1st RB out the weak side and the Sam (Strong Outside Linebacker) covers the 1st RB out the strong side.
Fire- Free Safety walks up behind the noseguard and blitzes strong A gap while the noseguard slants to the weak A gap. Straight man coverage (cover 0) is played. Check Base vs. 1 RB or empty.
Smash- Strong Safety walks up behind the Sam and blizes through the C gap. The defensive end slants to the B gap. The free safety walks over when the Strong safety cheats down and covers the strong safety's man (S2). Straight man coverage (cover 0) is played. Check Base vs. 1 RB or empty.
Crash- Weakside corner walks to the outside of the weak outside linebacker. He blitzes off the edge. The free safety walks over when the weak corner cheats down and covers the weak corner's man (W1). Straight man coverage (cover 0) is played. Check Base vs. 1 RB or empty.
Our outside linebackers blitz on nearly every play-- if we are in cover 1, they are gone every, single time except for Go. In Cover 2, we only blitz our Will (weak outside linebacker).
Excellent blitz/coverage descriptions.
Does anybody run any zone coverage behind their 3-4/52 blitz package: like a cover three shell with flats and middle always covered. This would be when blitzing 5 only...not sure how to safely zone when blitzing 6?
Example: Bringing both strong side LBs -
weak outside LB has weak flat
weak inside LB sit in the middle
have the weak corner and free safety in cover three shell (SS/strong corner can either cloud or sky the strong side flats/deep third)
You'd better have good pressure with only three underneath zones covered, but it seems safe with a deep three shell to protect against the home run.
Note: Dick Lebeau has the Steelers run this and for added confusion he stunts the NT and weak DT/DE (DE pinches and NT stunts around to the outside C/D gap. (Although no high school team has a NT as big and athleticas Casey Hampton that can stunt and cover the weak outside gap!)
Another good run blitz:
Have NT cross face and work to weak A gap.
Strong inside LB blitzes strong A gap.
Strong DT/E into C gap.
Now Blitz your SS into the strong B gap. The strong side guard now has a dilemma: take the SS or ILB- a great run blitz that attacks the B gap.
I suppose you can either run man free or cover three behind this...your preference.
Coach VeeOption70,
I would also like to see your Desert Swarm and A&M 3-4 playbook. If you get a chance to send them to me, I would really appreciate it.
