Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I ran I-Option for years. Veer is my favorite play out of the I, but really because it's a great play overall. Here is how I ran veer out of the I:
To TE side (13/14 Strong):
PFL- Stalk
PTE- Inside linebacker
PT- 1st inside defender
PG- 1st playside DL
C- Base-Playside Gap
BG- Wedge
BT- Wedge
BSE- Crack
QB- Veer steps
FB- Veer path (outside leg of the guard)
TB- Veer path (5X1 from the QB)
QB- GIVE THE BALL UNLESS THE READ KEY TURNS HIS SHOULDERS AND TAKES THE DIVE!
Away from TE side (13/14 Weak):
PSE- Stalk
PT- Combo to Inside Linebacker
PG- 1st playside DL
C- Base-Playside Gap
BG- Wedge
BT- Wedge
BTE- Wedge
BFL- Crack
QB- Veer steps
FB- Veer path (outside leg of the guard)
TB- Veer path (5X1 from the QB)
QB- GIVE THE BALL UNLESS THE READ KEY TURNS HIS SHOULDERS AND TAKES THE DIVE!
If the defensive gives you a triangle (three defenders outside the B gap) run slot to the veer side- I Slot Rt, 14 Weak; I Slot Lt, 13 Weak.

Midline, ISV, OSV, Load/Lead and Speed options. Our base rule for our OL is (inside gap, man on, linebacker). We use the "Jill" scheme when running midline to the TE side.
When running the TRUE veer option, and not some hybrid scheme where the QB has everything predetermined for him, etc. most people block it pretty much the same. Having run the veer for a number of years as a High School level coach, I found that the COMPLIMENTARY plays that you run with it are super important! All passes should be play action off the veer look. The ISO, COUNTER, POWER, Traps, ETC. that any team that runs the "I" runs should be employed. Just a suggestion as always.
