Yes, that is not the way to run it. In order to DRIVE DOWN HILL with your first step at your read, the QB must have a DOWN HILL ANGLE to start with. I never teach stepping parallel down the LOS because as I have often times posted, any penetration that bubbles the QB path will force him AWAY from the LOS and his READ. When this happens, his read is able to give him a fuzzy look and will make your QB make a wrong decision if he is not really sharp! Even on the OSV where you ae to take that extra step to get to the hole, I always advocate a DOWN HILL ATTACK BY THE QB, NEVER A PARALLEL ONE.

FB is to EXPLODE TO THE BALL AT 150% EFFORT! That is why I teach that in the PSL verses a 50 front for example, the QB has but to look and see a 5 tech on his OT and no more reading necessary! It is an automatic give to the Dive back, no matter how much you hear these guys tell you that a pinching 5 will mess you up with that philosophy. To that I say there is no DT in a true 5 tech who can pinch the hole CLOSED if you have the RIGHT GUY AT FB. I always had the FB's KNUCKLES AT 4 YDS OFF THE BALL. Your OT releases inside to the second level and Bingo, your off to the races with your FB right off his butt.
