Coaches,
I was thinking that it would be nice if we could all list some terms and their defenitions that we use with our OL in the option game. I will get it started and please list any that you feel could help others better understand.
-Pickin Grass - term used to strees to O-linemen who are releasing inside to drop their shoulder allowing them to quickly release up to 2nd level defenders
-Arc block - outside release by tight end/slotback working up to 2nd level defender
-Crowd the ball - tells the Oline to get as close to the line of scrimmage as possible without being off sides
-track the ILB to FS - tells the Guard to either block ILB or FS depending on wheather the ILB attacks down hill or flows over the top

Lou,
I realize we could go on forever. I am just trying to help those who may not be familar with all the terms we might use on here and possibly learn some new ones myself. I do remember the time when I didnt know squat about many of the terms we just listed. As you know, football just like anything must be taught. Heck, if it weren't for many of the coaches on this site I would not know half of what I do know now.
To me one of the most incorrect usuages of terms has to do with those who call a combo and a double team the same block. In my experience, a double team block is one in that two OL both use what amounts to a bull rush defensive technique. By this I mean they both get hip to hip and attack the down defender with both hands to his chest and simply drive him (drive block) the defender straight backward.
A combo block is one that features one OL hitting the down defender about belt high and the other OL hitting him shoulder high in order to turn him.
Another term that belongs on the list, imo, is the CUT BLOCK. This is the technique employed by the OL diving in such a manner as to put his pads on the defenders knees or lower legs and is very effective!
Another term would be CHOP BLOCK - A VERY DANGEROUS TECHNIQUE EMPLOYED BY HAVING ONE LINEMEN HOLD ANOTHER PLAYER IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION WHILE HIS TEAM MATE CUTS HIM. VERY SERIOUS INJURY CAN RESULT FROM THIS MOST ILLEGAL OF BLOCKS!!!
