Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I coach at a HS where most of the never played football or any organized sport growing up. Even with varsity, i still have to start with the very basics of the game (ex. names of positions, where each position is etc....)The man blocking concpt is an easier concept to learn, but would like to teach zone. DO any of you coaches have this problem? WOuld you still try to teach zone
Many of my players don't come up in a football background, nor have great youth level coaching (eg. go hit that 'guy') and have little knowledge of the game.
I still teach zone - it is no different than teaching man-blocking. In fact I went to zone because I think it is more of an advantage.
Just teach them the simple covered/uncovered rules (easier to learn than gap, on, over, away), and rep the heck out of the combos.
Black Fly gave a good answer, imo. If they know notihng, then the combo blocks that afford them help, is just as easy to teach. Just teach them WHO TO BLOCK FIRST AND THEN TEACH THEM HOW.

Coach... send me an email at BlackFly73@yahoo.com and I will email you the insert I put in my playbook for our kids regarding zone blocking, and all our O-Line run blocks. I'd be happy to help!
Coach
Several years ago I went back down to coach our JV. We had no experienced coaches at that level xince some had moved away. Not ONE of these Offensive Lineman had ever put on pads before. We went 8-1 and won our Conferences JV Championship. We ran primarily Inside and Outside Zone, with the occasional ISO and Counter.
We just inside zone block it (covered/uncovered) but the first guy playside (counting the center) that is uncovered actually zones away from the play. Thus leaving a backer unblocked for the H/FB.
Are your ears thawed out yet way up North there in the land of great hunting and fishing? It was 70 + here today, went fishing in my shirt sleeves for a short while. Got no hits, was throwing plastice worms for bass, but it was my first chance since getting ill 5 months ago, and I really thanked the good Lord or allowing me to go, if even for only a short while! How is the team looking?

Hey Jerry - Glad to see you're getting out and enjoying life !!!!!!!! Excellent !!!!!
Still Winter here. I'll be going down to Pittsburgh this weekend for the Nike Clinic - Joe Bugel is supposed to speak on the Sunday!!!!
Our team is looking good, especially at the JV level. We have about 20 kids working out at 7:30am in the morning - about 10 of those are Freshmen!!!! We do a great rope skippin/plyometric warm-up followed by cleans, bench presses, and squats, etc. I've seen GREAT gains and improvements in physique with the guys. When we are 'resting' between sets we're skipping rope or doing burpees. We've had some kids guys come in a try to join in the middle of a phase... and they can't keep up because of the base we've built - but we've had a few stick with it.
I'm also putting together a manual for our players on Strength/Agility/Speed... as well as Nutrition and Study Skills... I have a video to go with our weight program as well for the exercises.
So we are building quite a base for the future. At the Varsity level I still don't have a QB - but I'm trying to manufacture someone who can throw a little playaction at least off the zone. My JV QB's will be going to at least 2 good QB camps locally in the summer - and I'm planning on taking my linemen down to one of the local NCAA schools for a couple 1 day camps.
I've got another issue I'll need some advice about... I'll contact you after the weekend.
Rose - We push for styles of zone schemes here in my football program 1. vertical Scheme 2. Slow Rotating Zone 3. Fast Rotation 4. Stretch Scheme. All are based upon type of play called and how the ball is delivered from QB to RB. Coach CAmpbell
