Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I want your thoughts. I am unsure where I got this from but wanted to run it by ya. I am an offensive coordinator on the HS level. we are maxing-out this week. Next week, I wanted to sit down with my personnel and allow them to share with me their goals, opinions, position preference, etc. Also, it will provide me the opportunity to tell them what I see for them and where I think they can be by the end of the off-season. We fill out the paperwork/contract and I keep the file. In August, we break-out the file and see where they stand with their goals and revisit our file.
I personally think this is a great idea. Anyone how knows me, knows that I am a big fan of holding the players accountable for what they do. At the same time I feel that they need guidance in what they are doing. You cant just tell them "Hey you are responsible for lifting weights and getting stronger. Here is our program, see you in August." It doesnt work that way. Thats how I feel on the weight lifing aspect. If you keep on them about their progress, I believe that they will improve.
In terms of the position aspect I think you have to make them well aware of the fact that although you might have 50% of the kids wanting to run the ball, there is only one ball and the players will be put in the spot that will best help the team.
What type of things do you include in the contract?
Great idea. I have done the same goal setting as a defensive coordinator. We talk to each player and see what they want to accomplish. We set short-term and long-term goals. We then discuss them, set priorities, then write them down. We also write down how they plan to accomplish those goals. The players sign them as an agreement and we file them. I set intervals to review the sheets with each player to see how they are doing with their goals. I have left the player contracts to the head coach but the goal sheet is my way of keeping up with the players and working on their goals.

I love the idea. I did that with my position guys this offseason. It was kind of tough for me because I didn't work in the high school, but I did get a chance to talk with most of them. It was my first year on the coaching staff and I didn't want to step on anyone's toes at the beginning of the season, so I kept some of my idea about stuff like that to myself. However, now that I'm established and they know me and how I work, I really want to push something like this for this coming season. Now, I've just got to get the HC motivated to get a staff meeting soon, then a meeting with the kids shortly after that. I'm on JV, and it might be tough to get some of the kids who aren't in the high school, 8th graders in the middle school, to meet personally with us. But, I think it's worth a shot.
