Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Will, this is my offense. We are a triple option team that incorporates the Wing-T's 20 and 30 series to compliment the triple. Our base formation is a double slot formation without a Tight End just like Navy and Georgia Southern run. Here are the ONLY run plays in our offense.
To the motion:
A gap- Midline
B gap- Veer
C gap- Power
D gap- Buck Sweep
Away from the motion:
A gap- Buck Dive
B gap- Reverse (Counter Criss-Cross)
C gap- Waggle Keep
WE ATTACK EVERY, SINGLE GAP IN OUR OFFENSE. We run to every, single area.
I hope this helps and I hope we can discuss this further. GREAT POST!

John, the two toughest plays I have had to defend as a coach are 1. counter-criss cross; 2. veer.
That's why I run both of those plays as an offensive coach. As long as you have a power sweep in the offense, you can run the counter-criss cross to the slot or wing.
TAKE GOOD NOTES FOR ME ON FRIDAY! Coach Turner from C-N Emailed me today, and when you see him there, tell him that you talked to me and that you are interested in working at his lineman camp on June 11-14. I am most likely going to work it. Email me for more details.
We'll talk later.

By Wing-T power, I assume you kick out w/ FB on the first player outside the PsOT and lead through with the off-side guard. Do you toss the ball or hand off and boot away?

We kick out the defender on or past the slot. This is the outside linebacker/defensive end/overhang player/contain player or anything else you want to call him. We down block the 5 technique with the slot and kickout the defender past him with the fullback. We hand the backside slot the ball off his 2-step motion at a depth of 4 yards. The slot should get lateral and then work up to hug the down block that the slot has executed. The backside guard should seal the scraping linebacker (ideally) and the slot runs to daylight. The quarterback will boot away at a depth of 6 yards. Our power play is called 35/36. If we run 36 with the QB booting away it becomes 36 Boot. Coach, I hope this helped and we can discuss this further if need be.

Do you use wide or traditional Wing-T splits? The reason I ask is we are a true triple team (3'-5' splits). I think the pulling-trapping game is difficult from those splits. Also, would you mind explaining your buck dive to me.
Thanks,
Will

We will work on this from the beginning of June right through the season. Splits have to be gone over all the time to the point where they automatically react to the stimulus.
Buck Dive is run to the side opposite of the sweep. This was started by Jim Roth at Southern Columbia, who has won five state championships in Pennsylvania (most all time). They got tired of good teams reading keys on the buck trap and stopping them, so they base block everyone and they run the ball to the a gap away from the sweep. This is far more effective than the trap, because good teams can read keys and blow up the trap.
Here are the blocking rules on Buck Dive:
PSE- Stalk
PSB- 2-step mo, Sweep Path
PT- Inside Linebacker
PG- Gap-On-Down
C- Base-Playside Linebacker
BG- Playside Gap
BT- Playside Gap
BSB- Fake Down Block to Near Safety
BSE- Crack
QB- Buck Series Steps
FB- Dive Path

One thing that Navy does is send the slot in motion and the QB opens up like it is veer, and then he spins back around and hands the ball off the the FB for a trap. I'm not sure what the FB's path is, I would guess just like a regular trap. I think they usually run it to a 3 technique. They broke about a 75-yarder with it against Army and had some decent gains against Colorado State as well.
Cory, I only run the jet series if we have perfected all other series. If we cannot execute our midline, veer, buck sweep, buck dive, power, and reverse, we cannot effectively run the jet. I hope this answered your question.
PS. our splits are 2 ft. on jet.

Cory, I do not run any rocket. The reason is because I have enough in the offense right now and I believe that expansion of the offense would work against us. We have a play attacking every hole to and away from the motion. That is sufficient for now.
