Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
3& 5-7 inside their ten yd line-Red Zone. What would you run? Then, if it happened again in the game, what would you run next. Then, if it happened a third time , what would you run?
Things like this happen and I'm just wondering if any of you are prepared and would like to share.
This situation is hard for a play caller when it happens for the second and third time in a game. I'm wondering what you guys would call the second and third time it happens.
Your question really underscores the NECESSITY for a COMPLETE goal line package, not just a single play or two. First off, When I'm down there the first time I'm not even thinking pass, I'm thinking POWER RUNNING. If they show us they can stop us with my POWER TEAM on the field, then I am forced to start thinking alternatives. But, to be honest we are not usually stoppped. I break what your calling the red zone down into three zones, not one. Red= 20 to 15 Yellow= 15-5 Green 5 and in.
Ram it at 'em, then go play action! Favorite 3 step= 30 dive Y Pop! (fake the FB, hit TE)
Favorite 5 step= Triple option pass ( fake dive back, three quick steps to behind playside OT, hit dragging TE, or two verticals by WR's, or check down to FB who has faked dive and squatted in front of FS) or swing to RB. The time of execution is as long as normal 5 step drop, but actually after parallel steps to OT, we then only take 3 drop steps. Just my way.
No 7 step drops down close for us.

I agree about running, but when it's 3rd&7 for the third time in the game on their 7yd line, what will you call.
I wanted to start this topic to see what type of scripting you guys do for goal line 3rd & 7 calls.
Great answer from Bill as always! For me,3rd and 7 is perfect place for our 30 DIVE-Y POP CALL. Great place for our 30 DIVE-10 BOOT-Y DRAG ( QB fakes dive to FB, boots away from TE who drags to corner of the endzone to take full advantage of all the space he can get.) The criteria you have set (this being the third call in the same situation just enhances my original statement of the absolute necessity of having several plays for the same down and distance, not just a preset one or two.) I would look at my available choices from my game plan chart and make my choice based on what I have seen from the defense to this point. Just my way.

The first time I am in this situation I would go with what has been working, likely a strong run or an option, I am a huge fan of the load option here.
The second time I would probably put my fastest guy up against there fastest guy by means of a rocket sweep (love the wing-t)
The third time I would either fall back on one of the above or pull out some safe trickery like a middle screen (assuming the defense is not disiplined at all like most high school defenses). Or perhaps a bootleg/waggle play, something with a two way go. If they fail I would assess the situation and kick if I felt it was best.
