Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Last year we ran Midline fairly well vs Odd front teams with a nose guard. What we did was get in a 2 TE set and force their DT's out to our Offensive Tackles. Our blocking scheme was for the Center to take the Nose anywhere he wanted to go and we told the BOTH guards to release to the Middle LB. We told the Offensive Tackles to cut the Defensive tackles. Our RB ran off of the block of the Center. VERY EFFECTIVE for us.
At any rate this play really wasn't an OPTION play. It was a GIVE and the RB was making a cut. My question is do any of you run the Midline vs odd fronts and if so how do you block it? Thanks a lot, History 10.
I've run the midline since 1998 when I was coaching high school ball in New Jersey. I have tried running it vs. a 0-tech nose. Unless you have a dominant center, you will struggle running midline vs. a 0-tech nose. Also, I've tried running midline vs. an A gap down lineman. Not a bright move on my part. I check to veer vs. a 0-tech or an A gap down lineman.

And, this is exactly why we run a no tight end set / i formation, and have an audible to just switch sides we're running the play to.
I've come into contact with an old Nebraska Cornhusker playbook (mid 90's), and they just had a number which switched the side the play was going to be run. Get a shaded nose? call the other side.
Navy will run Midline to a NG using their same rules but teach the FB to read the block of the center. All the center has to do create a stalemate and take the nose whichever direction he wants to go and let the fullback cut off his block.
because the fullback hits so quick and a nose is just another thing to have to teach your o-line I have found it easier to check into another play to create best blocking scheme and to help the amount of things we are willing to teach. Coach Campbell
