Coaches,
Hi my name is Derek Tyler and I an OC at Parkdale HS here in MD. I wanted to introduce myself to the community as for awhile I could not post and could only view the threads (some user name and password problem). Either way it is nice to meet you all as I think this in one of the top coaching resources there is on the Internet. My situation is that I might be trying to pursue coaching on the next level in the coming year(s). I have been networking with many coaches just to build the relationships needed in this industry and I was presented with an potential opportunity to "intern" or coach on the next level. My question really is being that I am a teacher with a master's degree is it possible for me to coach full-time and teach a couple of classes on the next level? I am a teacher and just coaching on the next level probably will not be able to meet my financial obligations. I know it is possible to teach a couple physical education classes but seeing as though my master's is in elementary education would I be able to teach a elem. ed. course and coach? Also, other than networking how else do you go about getting your foot in the door? Do any of you recommend the AFCA meeting as a place that one has to go to to build these relationships, would you recommend emailing schools that you are interested in, etc.? It's hard at times because a lot of the positions go to coaches with college experience and former college players, so I was just looking for an advice on that topic (Lou Cella you might really be able to help me out if you get an opportunity to address this post). But it was nice meeting you all and I look forward to our conversations in the future.
Sincerely,
Coach Derek Tyler
