Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I recently bought, online, tape one of your zone blocking set from the Phoenix Clinic. I've only watched it once and plan to revisit it, but could you describe to be the calls that the lineman make at the LOS. Generally, will the TE make the call and then move down the line? Does the center make the call? Most of the teams we face will be running a 50 front with the DE's in an 8 or 9 tech and the tackles in a 5 or 6.
I hope am making sense. I feel that I have a basic knowledge of the zone blocking scheme but I always want to know more.

linemen make calls best upon the type of play called using the near ear rule of the down defender. Ace (guard, Center) Duece (Guard, Tackle) Trey (Tackle, Tight End) combos. The footwork is determined by the way the ball is delivered to the running back, lineman will know this by the name of the play called. looking forward to going further with this. Coach CAmpbell
Coach,
I am trying to understand your "near ear" terminology. When you are running inside zone right, do your linemen zone step right, or do they attack near ear. For example, if you are playing a 1 and 5 playside with no TE, does your guard step right combo-ing with your right tackle or does he attack near ear and step with his left foot. I am sorry for sounding so elementary on this. Thanks

Not Coach Campbell, but following the near ear rule, zoning right, the center would base block and the right guard and right tackle would have a deuce combo. I am assuming that there is no defensive end or any other down lineman outside the right tackle. Any outside fringe defensive players should be accounted for through your formation, motion, or play action from the QB.
I'm new with this scheme. I believe this is correct. Coach Campbell, would you look this over and make corrections if needed? Thanks.

To a one and a 5 tech. you would get an Ace combo with guard and center and then a base by tackle with no tight end. Also the type of play called will also make a difference. But the near ear takes an offensive lineman to the nearest ear of the down defender. Coach Campbell
Does it matter if the ball is run inside or outside? I would think if you run inside it would be an ace combo with tackle base, outside it would be center base with a deuce combo. Coach C, would you clarify?
Coach Campbell,
Let's say we are running inside zone right. We get a 2i and a 5 (no TE) playside. My understanding is that the RT takes a zone step right, blocking the 5 tech. However, my question is regarding the Ace combo. Does the RG zone step right, or does he step with his left foot to attack near ear of the 2i? Sorry about the simplicity of the question. Thanks.

If the ball is going outside then the combos will move towards the play with the Oline butts coming around. Inside you get more of a vertical push. Coach CAmpbell
