Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
The 7s play in a two-point, jam the TEs and cover them man to man. The 3s must not allow the G or T out on the MLB. A good DW coach will then use his WB to block your MLB. Have the 8s attack the WB's outside shoulder and/or have the CB fill if the WB releases inside, Mike or FS will have to cover him.
If there is motion, the CB should go with his man.
If the WB starts pushing the TE or OT from behind, it is a wedge play. the CB should drive his own 3 or 7 tech.
I would have your scout O run with a youth ball (or tennis ball) to simulate the misdirection and force the D to read the blocking scheme and recievers, not the backs.

First of all i would like to say hello to everyone and introduce myself...My Name is Tyler Wiggins and I'm the Head Coach of JV and the assistant head coach on varsity at a small catholic high school in Ojai, Ca.
Now to your question, as coach Scott mentioned above me that playing the 7 technique is a great way to stop. The one thing that always screws us up is what we call a 6 technique, which looks like is the same thing diagrammed by Coach Scott...he is basically the inside shade of the TE. If we run Belly or some play to the inside we do ok, but the Buck series is really hurt by that Technique. He is the first guy i watch for up in the both
hope that helps

Coaches,
The 7 or 6 technique is no problem. We are VERY HAPPY when we see the defense do this. It gives us our rockets, jets, counter and powers all day long. In addition, if we do not want a 7 or 6 tech we just go to our DW spread formations. Such as
--------------------------------F-
----------------A_-------------Q-------------B
X______________T---G-----C---G---T-----------------------------Z
or
-------------------------------F
-------------------A----------Q-------------B
-----------------------T---G--C--G---T--------------------X-----------------Z
or
or
-------------------------------F
-------------------------------Q--------------B-------------------------------Z
--------------A-------T----G-----G----T-------------------X
finally,
the last thing we will do is use a trade to shift with our TE to get the 7 or 6 to make an adjustment mistake. We also use a LOT of unbalanced formations. We will take anywhere between 40-50 different formations into a game and use all of them to dictate to the defense what WE want.
Hope this helps

PS: Classic Wing T has strong formational tendancies that can be used against them. The best speakers are Paul Pasquloni who use to be with Syracuse and Jim Reid who use to be with Richmond U. These guys know how to defend the Classic wing, because they both coached at Southern Connecticut where they ran the wing T. The modern Wing t with its spread and shotgun and rocket/jet offenses are very hard to defend and using a specific defense to defend them will probably not work.
We dont lose any games we just run out of time.

I take your point about the formation adjustments.
IF in a true double wing, are you able to pull both the back-side G and T vs. a defense as described above (7-3-0-3-7)? If so, would you explain assignments/techniques?
Every DW coach always answers that way to any adjustment you may propose on one of these boards, so don't get frustrated!
"YEAH, WE LOVE TO SEE THAT BECAUSE THEN WE DO THIS...YOU WEAK HELPLESS FOOLS!! WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE!! MWAHH HAAA HAA!"
The truth is, that's what offensive and defensive football are all about, right? If you take away THIS, you are giving up THAT. You could have that same back-and-forth about any offense vs. any defense in the book...otherwise nobody would be running them!
The best way to defend the DW is to stay disciplined, react to the blocking schemes, and take away what they do best. Period. It's no different than any other offense unless you try to be gimmicky on defense, which is exactly what they WANT you to do.
Coaches,
What Lochness is getting at it is whoever has the chalk last wins. However, That is not true on the football field with our offensive teams. IT DOES NOT MATTER, WE WILL DO WHATEVER IT IS WE WANT TO DO NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. The bottom line is (AND THIS IS VERY TRUE ABOUT FOOTBALL), The game is about Jim and Joes and not X's and O's. I do not care what scheme you run if you do not have the players then you are in trouble. We do not and have never said OK if the defense does this then we will run this. WE ARE GOING TO DO WHAT WE WANT TO DO NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO!!! You will not take me out of the plays I want to run. I use different formations or motioning to keep doing what I want. Good offensive coaches will dictate to the defense and not the other way around. I will fire any offensive coordinator who tells me we need to react to the defensive adjustments etc.. We DO NOT react we attack. Lochness is corret in You can not stop everything, just stop the best thing they do. Always stop the run first and make them throw. Gimmick defenses do not work and playing your base well is the key. Double wing coaches do not want to throw. They will if forced, but remember the majority of their practice time is spent on the run and not on the pass. Make them do what they do not like doing.
Good Luck,
Karjaw
Coach Scott,
Here is how they will pull both guards based upon your diag.
Playside:
TE: Gap down backer (block your 7tech inside)
Tackle: gap down backet (block the 3 tech)
WB: gap down backer( Block the CB in the LBE postion)
Guard: PUll kick out ( kick out the 8 tech)
Center: ON area away: (block the NG)
Backside Guard: Pull and rip inside the kickout block
Backside Tackle pull check (help with the 3 tech)
Backside TE: Cut off block
THE KEY: Full back will fill for the backside pulling guard. (blocking the 3 tech.)
Hope this helps

As I've said before, the only true way to stop the DW is to bring a Bazooka and a couple of Patriot missiles to the game with you! That should help, at least until they make their adjustments!
