I have a question about a couple fronts and their alignments of the front 7.
They are the bear, eagle, and double eagle.
What are the alignments of the guys in the front 7 and also does it depend on the system or is their a standard look for each.
A Bear front, by definition, has a front eight not seven.
A double eagle look has a 3 tech. on either side and a head-up nose (0 tech.).
Some coaches use "bear" to describe any eight-in-the-box look. To me, a bear look is a 46:
--B---------B
E---3--0--3--7-9
--T-G-C-G-T-Y
The 7 tech. and 9 tech. are traditionally in a 2-point and the weak DE in a 3-point stance.
A traditional double-eagle is the almost the same, but without the 7 tech and with a cover two look behind it.
If you are interested in installing this defense get a copy Rex Ryan's book "Coaching Football's 46 Defense." He is the DC for the Baltimore Ravens. In two games this year they have scored more points than they have given up.
