I've just read "Football Defense Of The Future: The 2-level Model", and at one point, while discussing traditional defensive strategies, the authors mention zoning the (offensive?) formation as opposed to zoning the field in pass coverage. Can anyone here explain what is meant by zoning the formation, and what the advantages/disadvantages would be?
