Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
we never go more than 2 hours. by the time the kids show up, get dressed, lift, watch film, receive training and all that other good stuff - they would be there way too long. our 2 - days never go more than 2 hrs.
We go 2 to 2.5 hours max on the field. Always felt after that you lose the kids real concentration perameters, not to speak of the physical aspect of just getting wore out. We never lifted just prior to going on the practice field, never made any sense to me to lift and get all tight and then go out and stretch to get loose all over again. Early mornings or after practice was always my desired time for the weights.

Havne't been a HC yet, but I have it written in my manual for when/if I become one that no more than two hours will elapse between the start of stretching and conditioning. There will be a prepractice time before stretching. I kind of agree with some of the above opinions--I feel that kids (and some coaches) lose focus once you get beyond that two hour mark.
We practice 2 hours on Tuesday-Thursday; 90 min on Mondays; and we have a 60 min. walkthrough on Fridays. Go to NFL and college training camps. Nobody is practicing more than 2 hours anymore. Why? Because after 2 hours players shut down mentally, physically, and emotionally. I was on the field for the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens training camp this summer. The Bills did not have ONE practice that was longer than 1 hr 45 min (I attended four sessions) and the Ravens' longest practice was a 2 hr morning practice.
Another drastic change in football is conditioning. People are not doing this at practice anymore. Why? Because football has become a 12-month a year sport and players are now in the shape that they need to be by the time training camp starts. In addition, enough research has shown that when you make players condition at the end of practice, the focus is completely lost among players during the entire practice, because they are focusing on surviving that conditioning session and not the practice content.
Hopefully, this insight can help the young high school coaches on this board. If you really want to win, consider what I just offered.

2:00 is enough. IF you want to count pre-practice warm up, specialist periods, after practice running, water breaks, etc it MAY come out to 2:30 (looking at a practice plan for one of ND's practices in the Spring of 2005 - this was the case). If you do not count these things - you certainly can get it done under 2:00!
One factor I think is important: In Pro & College - you only have to teach the kids ONE side of the ball. In HIGH SCHOOL - many play BOTH ways! If this is the case - High School practices must be more carefully STRUCTURED!!!!!!!
