Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Aligned as follows: 4,0,4, 2 ILB's over the guards and 2 olb's outside the 4 tech's.
The ILB's like to stunt A & B gaps. I think we will have the QB "pull and pitch" if the ILB is in the B gap at the snap of the ball on I/V. I will have the slot block the OLB (regular pitch key).
I would probably not automatically pitch the ball unless you were against your QB running with it. Can't you just tell the OL to block their inside gap and still possibly give the ball to the FB as well? We are facing a similar defense tomorrow night, but a 4-4 with LBs that will walk up in the gap regularly. We also plan to throw the ball and get to the outside.
2. Base the 4 with the psT, put the guard on Backer, send put the slot on the OSB, read B-gap, and pitch off CB. If 4 is washed down pull, if 4 is steps out give to FB. If the backer blitzes B pull, as long as the 4 does not get penatration you should be good.
3. Veer everyone down and read the 4. if the backer blitzes you should have a G or T on him. the 4 will have to come down hard to take FB. You should be able to get four yards with the FB if the 4 is slow, if the 4 is quick enough to get to the FB then pull and pitch. put your slot and WR on the OLB and DB.
4. You could have the G and T both step in B gap and double the first thing they get to. If the four steps into the Double, you should run his butt to the goalline and give it to the FB. If the 4 steps out, give to the FB and kill the ILB with G and T. If the 4 backdoors the T, pull and pitch. The only problem is the center has to secure the playside A-gap. you need a good center.
Turns out our opponent did not run the 3-4, but instead ran a 4-4 (5 & 2 technique each side). They stunted their ISLB's a couple of times, once through our playside 'A' gap and our center did not get him, instead he went directly to the BSLB.
Also, they started having their OLB's run and cover the pitch man.
That's funny. Our opponent actually came out in a 5-3. We ran veer with some success, usually with the QB pulling the ball as they had their DTs pinching. I think we gave to the FB twice on the veer with moderate to low success, but he did have a 78 yard run on a trap. Our QB had a lot of nice runs. They played man and had their DE take pitch.
