Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Just want to throw an idea out there and see what people think.
Take your regular old spread offense with the zone read, speed option, and trap check and add a fly element to it. Inside receiver to the strong side comes in motion across, quarterback takes the snap and hands it to him running full speed around the end. All that this play requires is that the PST make the DE go inside of him. Now throw in this motion and a fake fly to go with all of your other plays and the defense is stuck in a real pickle. If they don't bust butt to the sideline, the Fly will get around them. However, if they committ too soon, the backside zone read or speed option will wreak havoc. Then when you get the defense good and worried about thier flanks you start trapping the crap out of them as well as running the old Tim Tebow QB iso. Most of my thinking comes from a doubles set but it can work from trips as well.
Fly teams will usually run a bunch of 1 back sets with these same concepts. I feel like that would be a good dimension to add to a spread offense. The fly sweep action forces defenders to stay home and makes it difficult for teams to get eleven guys to the football. If you run sweep well you will force defenses to move and change. This can give you some nice one on one match ups within your passing game.
