This is an email that went out to our parents and players in January as we began our off season program.
The most precious resource is TIME. Nobody gets anymore or less than another person each day. It is how we “spend” our time that reveals so much about each of us, and our character.
FIRST POINT
We cannot prepare for a football season without investing time. The sport demands physically fit athletes, both in strength and endurance. This does not occur with magic pills. It requires and investment of time. However just investing time, doesn’t guarantee results. There has to be a plan and then “work” to fulfill the plan. The goal of our off-season program is to increase the strength and endurance of our athletes. It is plain and simply a safety issue. The off season program includes:
The off season program includes five (5), six-week training periods. These past three weeks have been spent teaching, and preparing our players for the next thirty-weeks, which by the way ends with a game versus Magnolia.
SECOND POINT
We cannot develop relationships without investing time, whether friendships, spouse or family. The concept of “quality” time is true – lots of quality time stimulates, challenge and allows our relationships to develop and grow. We grow together (spending time) or grow apart (not spending time) – it is an incontrovertible fact.
Our players are going to develop relationships with one another just by the shear time spent together. However, these relationships must grow to respect through a commitment to one another. They must develop a desire to never let a teammate down; whether missing a practice, not giving their best effort, hurting the team by putting personal agendas ahead of the team’s, lack of effort in the classroom, poor decisions on and off campus; bottom line: selfishness. The antidote is giving our time.
MOST IMPORTANT POINT
There is no relationship with Christ without an investment in TIME. We must talk with Him, two-way communication in prayer and study of the Word. My challenge to our players and to you is develop a friendship character trait list of Christ, from the Word. The idea is to get to understand the qualities and characteristics of a healthy friendship and what it takes to maintain a growing relationship. A growing relationship will naturally progress to “true Biblical Love” - 1 Corinthians 13
Love
Our players have embarked on a journey together to defeat selfishness and develop a Biblical perspective of Love. If our players and coaches can attain this, then we will have a great football program!

Love
quote:
(1) If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. (2) If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. (3) If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. (4) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (5) It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. (6) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (7) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (8) Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. (9) For we know in part and we prophesy in part, (10) but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. (11) When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. (12) Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. (13) And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
