Coach Fowler,
I am researching various defenses and the 30 stack is very interesting to me and I feel it would fit well in my youth program from age 7 to 12. Please forward me as much help as you feel comfortable. Again thxs for your time and help.

In one of my earlier posts, you mentioned that I am "right there" in terms of switching from the 5-3 to the 33 Stack. I agree, but there seem to be a couple of different ways of aligning the ends in the Stack. I have seen some line them up over the quick tackle, nose and Y. While others line them up in a traditional 50 look (head up on the tackles and nose). Do you have an opinion about which works better? I'm concerned about the Y getting a clean release off of the line, as I'm used to having my end jam him on the snap. I also worry about option responsibilites. Do they remain the same?
Anyone with any sound advice is welcome to respond.

We rarely change our alignment of our defensive lineman. I use a "gap" call when I want pass rush or penetration (goalline for example) in which they move their alignment into the strong side gap and they penetrate. We want the offense to believe that they can find the defensive lineman easily. We blitz 100% of the time. I haven't been hurt a lot by TE's with a free release. We try to create chaos around the TE as much as possible. If the LB is blitzing the C gap, he is supposed to blow the TE up on his way by, if the DE is responsible for the C gap, he is supposed to collision the TE's inside hip. We also run Cover 0 in which the FS roles down and has the TE man-to-man and can become another run player if the TE blocks. We also put the Spur or OLB in a man coverage on the TE cocked on his outside shoulder. We work this technique a lot to insure that the OLB gets a solid outside jam on his man.
The biggest change for you is to get that "BASE" defense mentality out of your head. You have to look at this defense the way that offensive coordinators look at calling offense. You are sending as many blitzes at them as you can. I have probably ran 10 different blitzes on 10 straight snaps in a game before without repeating blitzes. We have 3 and out series all the time in which we ran 3 different blitzes in front of 3 different coverages.
Our head coach just mentioned last week that he might like to make the switch to the 3-3 stack (we currently run the 4-3). I'd like to start getting prepared for it. If I could ask you to e-mail that material it sure would be appreciated.
Also, in doing the preliminary reading on the topic I am concerned about one particular player that is currently playing d-end who is our best pash rusher, is big and physical, and runs quite well. Do you think that type of player would be out of place playing in the end position in the aforementioned stack? Thanks for your help coach.
I'm looking for information on linebacker keys out of the 33 stack. Keys for the spurs and the Mike, Will, and Sam. I previously ran a 5-3, and my keys were as follows: Strong end and Sam would key TE then to backs. Will and Weak end would key the nearest or deepest back. Mike would always key the fullback through QB. My question is, does anyone think that these keys would translate in the 33?
I know it is later in the year of 2007 but any chance of getting your STUFF on the 33 Stack.... Student of the game and I love odd fronts... moving from bear 46 to more open defense.... I have alot of tweeners this year and not to many of the pounders... have to share them with our offense. I believe with the 33 I can take the leaner athletic kid and fill the field with them.
