This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have been asked to coach on the JV high school squad i my home town.. Great! My problem is the way they run the practice and the way the season ends up. Both leave alot to be desired. I belive in coaching the techniques and fundamentels, I have watched some of the practices in the past seasons and I cant imagine why the DQ has no stations or drills at any time durring the week? The entire squad runs scrimage every day! Durring a game the spotters up stairs crittique the players asking why cant they do this or that? My conceren is that the defensive staff is not up to par . the DQ runs a type of defense that does not require any adjustments to a shifting offense. "W.T.F." I wish to coach but I'm not sure if I should speak to the HC of the program? I think its time for this program to clean house and the A.D to get some quality coaches on staff. Th youth program that feeds the high school sends some very good talent to the school, I and a few coaches were involved with the youth program for over ten years, several youth super bowl titles and even a couple youth nationals titles. The HC of the JV squad is in his second year and is a good friend of mine. The varsity HC hands him his staff and has allowed him to bring in a few new coaches, what should I do? What would you do?
If you join a staff - be LOYAL to that staff! Do what they ASK you to do. If you have concerns about the way they do things - make suggestions for changes BEFORE you join the staff. Don't take the job and THEN "rock the boat" UNLESS they expressly ask your input. You will be perceived as disloyal!
BILL JUST GAVE YOU THE BEST ADVICE YOU WILL GET! A coach with your background in city ball, etc.
will soon discover that the training methods for that level of football are not applicable as the kids move on to the next level. I agree it is completely fool hardy to do nothing but scrimmage all day at the middle school level, BUT THAT MAN IS THE HEAD COACH AND IF YOU WORK FOR HIM BE LOYAL TO HIM AND TO THE PROGRAM. As Bill has already mentioned, if you have a problem with that, do yourself a favor and don't ake the job. It will be no time at all that if your one of these guys who buck the system you will soon be labled a "know it all, DISLOYAL assistant and you will be ruined before you start. I feel qualified to echo Bill's advice as I spent 42 years on the field, coaching at the High School level for 30 of those years, and the last 12 years coaching at the professional minor league level. You may be perfectly right in your assesment of problems within the program, but for your own sake keep quiet, do your job, make suggestions for change at the RIGHT time. Good luck in your new spot.
