My apologies in advance if this post gets too long. Last year was my son's first year in football and it was a fantastic experience. Generally his team was undersized (by an average of about 20 - 30 lbs), undermanned (only had 16 players), and imho undercoached (blocking scheme was "go out there and hit somebody"...the coaches are all great guys and have regular jobs as well but still). What they had on their side was a ton of heart and some talent. They wound up 1-7 but never got blown out and took several games into overtime before losing. To watch them fight until the final whistle without giving any quarter was truly amazing for me to see. After that season I became involved in coaching other youth sports. The youth coaching bug has bitten me and I'd like to get involved with football too. So far I've offered to print playbooks for all of the team and developed a plan to "video scout" upcoming opponents...both of which had not been done previously. I was just wondering if the collective wisdom of this forum had any other suggestions on how I might become more involved with the team. I don't believe the HC is looking for any additional assistants at this time (unless there is something I can do to convince him that I have something to offer). I don't want to become one of "those" parents either by being too pushy about offering unsolicited advice/assistance/whatever. I just feel very stongly that the way those boys played last year, I want to do everything I can to help them improve and maybe win a couple of more games this year.
Thanks
