I am a 5th year coach. I'll be starting my 4 year at my current school. I am working for a coach that is starting his 3rd year... so essentially I have 2 years working with this guy under my belt, but I was here for a season prior to him. I am not a teacher in the system and he is.
1. I think he hates me, but keeps me around because no one else wants to coach here. As is we only have 2 guys on the staff. He is the head coach.
2. He treats me like I have the plague. He never wants to meet or really discuss football at all.
3. I'm a football fanatic... I think about it all the time.
4. He knows next to nothing about the game - Self admittedly. He is learning however.
5. He trusts me to run the offense, but does tend to second guess my playcalling and personnel decisions.
6. He doesn't believe in having a off-season weight program or conditioning program.
7. Under the state rules we can have several off-season contacts with the players, but he never wants to use them.
8. We do go to a team camp every year, but only because I nag on him until he agrees to it. If it was up to him we would NOT go to a camp.
9. He is very critical of me. He constantly complains about the way I treat the players. He says I am too negative or put too much pressure on them.
10. He has said in the past he doesn't care if we win or loose. I thought this meant he would be a good guy to really push the life lesson benefits of football. However he doesn't discipline, stress time management or work ethic. Or any of the other hundreds of benefits of football for that matter.
11. The program is full of apathy and negative parent involvement.
12. I've had IT! It is really hard for a non-teachers so I hate to quit my job and be out of football. I've been very loyal thus far. I've tried to talk with him, but he always says nothing is wrong, but he blows up at me at the drop of a hat.
13. I've had an offer to coach Jr. High at another school and am seriously considering it. Am I nuts?
I used the numbering in case someone wanted to address to a certain point. Also I was trying to shorten things up...
