Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Is the BST on the same tract as the BSG when pulling on the counter trey? Or, is he slightly deeper? Please explain the footwork of the BST starting with his 1st step. This is our first year with it. Thanks!
“WRAPPER” = PULL ONE YARD DEEPER, AND ON THE HIP OF THE “TRAPPER”. TURN UP HUGGING THE DOUBLE TEAM (IN THIS CASE - THE "TREY" BLOCK) AND LOOK OVER YOUR INSIDE SHOULDER FOR THE PLAYSIDE Lber. LEAD THRU AND DON’T SLOW DOWN (IF PLAYSIDE Lber RUNS THRU, TRAP HIM).
I have seen many college and pro Oline coaches teaching the skip pull for the wrappers on these plays...a kick step back and in the direction they are going...a crossover step and then downhill into the hole...this is to keep their hips parallel to the line of scrimmage and eyes on the second level players they will be blocking....I know Rutgers teaches this for their power.
It is easier for the Off G on the "Power-OH" to do, but, if you are pulling the OFF T (or the "H" - TE off the ball instead) on the Counter-Trey - it is a little too far to go!
We just try to stay consistent for ALL wrappers (Off G, Off T, or Offside H) & do it the "old fashion way.
Seems to me if you eliminate the bucket step, you would eliminate the crossover also. I never advocated any crossover that was not absolutely necessary, especially on the HS level because it only causes big slow footed kids who are usually still growing all kinds of problems. We just had the T track a little deeper than the wrapper. Worked pretty well for us.

I agree...this year at the new school I am at we have smaller quick guards that have really good footwork and it looks good so far...I do not have my bigger Tackles do this...I am experimenting with this after I heard the Oline coach from Rutgers talk about it at a clinic this spring.
