Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are running the veer with the FB behind the QB. Aiming poing for FB is the inside leg of the OG. After a pull, the QBs are having a tendency to bend back a little bit to avoid the read key. We tell them that if this is the case, it should have been a give. Is it sometimes necessary to belly back a half yard to a yard after the mesh?
Not if you use the point method! THe aiming point of the dive back should be the brown spot of the guard or some like the outside leg, never the inside leg. I think that may be your problem, coach.

One possibility is the aiming point (to piggy back Coach Easton) and it's probably the first thing to look at. Another could be the depth of the RB (if he's too deep, that could cause problems). Yet another maybe the speed with which he hits the hole (if he's getting to the mesh point too slowly, that can also cause major problems). Another might be the footwork of the QB. Maybe, film your team period and take a good hard look at every detail. There could be more than one factor that is causing your problem.
Good thinking, it may very well be a combination of anything mentioned above, not one cause only. It has been my experience the aiming point is the most common cause, but very well maybe others.

That all makes sense. Thanks guys. I think it will also help when we actually get pads on and can hit. Up until now we have only had our helmets on. I think the FB and read key have been letting up to eliminate the non padded collision.
If it turns out the dive back is not hitting the hole on time as he should( I ran it out of the "I" or the bone, get one who can because that is crucial to your success!) I always had my FB at 4yds(his knuckles) off the ball. HE MUST EXPLODE TO THE BALL, ESPECIALLY ON THE ISV.

I hear you coach Easton. We definintely have the right people at FB and QB. We just need more time and reps. If it is ok with you, I am going to send some game film after the first couple weeks to get your input. Hope all is well with you. Thanks again.
I WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO THOSE TAPES!!! I'm doing well health-wise so far, just trusting the Lord day by day. Seems funny to be a light weight after being a 210 pounder for so long of my adult life.
But, you know what, I much prefer it once I got used to it. No gut at all and I sure like that. I was incline bench pressing 275 with my guys two years ago, couldn't get up the empty bar now as the nature of the illness took all my upper body muscle and body fat, but that is ok and I'm still here to enjoy my family and the coaching I get to do via the web. Presently working with several high school teams across the country, a college team in England, semi-pro teams in Finland and Ireland and Australia. Helped a team install my 3 x 2 last season and they went on to an 11-1 record. They made me the honorary coach and sent me a T-SHIRT. I greatly appreciated that as they are a hard working high school team here in the states. Thanks for asking about my health. Again, get off to a good start and I will be looking forward to the tapes, win lose or tie!!!
