Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I always rely on the variations of our formations that cause the defense to have to scramble to get aligned properly in the PSL, or those that cause them to have to stem to a different look all together.
I always enjoyed good luck by having wide, regular, and close variations of the WR's splits in my 3x2
spread. Wide being X and Y split from side line to side line with only a 7 yd alley to operate in, regular being split 14 yds off the ball on either side and close being X and Y split only 5-7 yds off the ball. All calls of the three variations indicated adjusted splits by the inside receivers as well.

Most often it becomes a double option with the QB and a receiver who goes in motion to become the pitch man. If you put one man back with the QB in the gun, you then can make it a triple option as you have the dive back and the pitch back and the QB to work with. Just a suggestion as always.

Sure wish I was up to it, and if I were, I would come up and you and I would go to one of the coaches you help now that used to play for you and get them to let me put in just a series or two from my version of the 3 x 2. I think, of all people, you would really appreciate it if you could spend a day or two around it. We could put in that "ALL UP" series I posted on one day that you liked and perhaps one other one, just to be used as a change up from what they normally run. It would be fun to see them kick some butt with it.

The school I was at last year ran some 3x2, I like the ideas you discuss here. On the 5 vertical plays, I always felt that a good variation would be have the 4 outside receivers run the go's and #3 on the trips side sun a 18-20 yard dig...my thinking was that would occupy the safety more....either one of the inside recevers or the dig would have to be open. Just my thoughts...I am more just OLine and defense but always look at things like that.
B goes in late motion as if you are running speed option left. Just after the snap, B cuts upfield to become the dive man. On the snap, C sprints behind the formation to get into pitch relationship. Would be sort of a counter option. Might work as a compliment to speed option if defense is overreacting to the late motion.
To answer the poster's question, Agree that Coach Easton's empty would be tough to stop. Also, any offense that takes advantage of quick, late motion (e.g. flexbone, double wing).
THAT, TO ME, IS THE REAL BEAUTY OF THE 5 WIDE 3 X 2 IN THAT THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS. I HAVE SOME 250 PLAYS (ALL PASSES) BUILT AROUND 4 BASIC CONCEPTS (VERTICAL, MESH, SMASH,FLOOD) THAT I HAVE DESIGNED FOR THE MOST PART, NOT ALL NOW MIND YOU, BUT THE VAST MAJORITY. THE PLAY YOU MENTION IS VERY VIABLE IN MY OPINION! IN MY "ALL UP' SERIES I HAVE THE 1'S RUN A BOUNDARY RELEASE GO, THE 2'S RUN A STRAIGHT GO, AND #3 TRIPS SIDE RUNS AN 18 YD POST WHERE YOU WOULD HAVE RUN THE DIG. IF YOU FEEL THAT WOULD INFLUENCE THE SAFETY MORE, GO FOR IT. I ALWAYS TRY TO INFLUENCE THE FS IN COVER TWO IN MY SERIES WITH A POST(18 YD) JUST SO I DON'T LET A DROPPING MIKE MAKE A GREAT PLAY. JUST MY WAY. APPRECIATE YOUR THOUGHTS!!!

If you can catch them in a single safety look in the middle of the field and you can run him off with a deep Post, it opens up the space between where he vacated and the dropping mike for a lot of diffferent sight adjustments by my receivers who are coached to get into the middle of the field if it is open!!! This is most often accomplished by # 3 trips side and #2 twins side when in the 3 x 2 who have sight adjustment privileges in my offense, while the WR's are taking them on the deep vertical routes.

I HANG MY HAT ON THE 3 X 2 BUT WE RUN AND THROW OUT OF SOME 25 FORMATIONS! WHEN DOWN CLOSE OR IN SHORT YARDAGE SITUATIONS I HAVE A POWER TEAM AND WE RUN IT RIGHT AT 'EM FROM
A STACK "I', A POWER "I", DOUBLE TITE FULL HOUSE, ETC.
CHECK THE ARCHIVES UNDER INSTALLING THE PASSING GAME AND YOU WILL FIND MY "ALL UP" SERIES.

The more formations the better in the system we run. We run the same plays out of about 15 formations.
6 two-back formations and 8 one-back formations . We run three unbalanced formations within the 15 formations.
This is one of my favorites and seems to put teams in a bind especially defending the fly offense. The Z is our sweeper or motion guy when we motion.
IS YOUR S BACK SIMILAR IN ABILITIES TO THE H BACK IN A ONE BACK SET? CAN YOU ALIGN HIM WHERE YOU WANT HIM, CAN HE CATCH, RUN, ETC.? CAN HE BLOCK??? WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU LOOK FOR IN THIS GUY?

It really depends on our personnell for that season. We have a system that is pretty adaptable to talent and I have been able to feature the individual talents of our players. We look pretty different every year although we are running the same base system and plays. I try and keep things as complex as possible for the defense we are facing while keeping things somewhat simple for our offense. This usually requires quite a bit of teminology but we feel it is easy to teach the language and is worth it in the end. My first two years coordinating our offense our HB played Slot in one-back sets. We basically had the same personnell for 1 and 2 back formations. The past four years I have subbed out our HB for a WR to play Slot. This has given us more flexibility because we are able to get more complex without overloading each individual player. Our Z is our fly guy and he needs to know the passing game inside out. Our HB and FB are primarily inside runners and blockers. They each have two pass plays that they release on. Our Slot, Y, Z, and X are focused on the passing game and perimeter blocking.
I can't say that any specific offensive set scares me any more than any other. However, the things that I do hate to defend are those offenses that use a ton of motion/shifts and bastardized line splits. If there's one thing I've learned in coaching football is that all offensive systems work...they wouldn't be there if they didn't. Some work better for certain personnel than others, but all work. It's all in the execution.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
I do not like to see teams that motion backs out of the backfield. Any teams that can motion a back out of the backfield and go from a 2X1 to a 2X2 or a 3X1 instantly makes a defense have to adjust so fast. That's my least favorite thing to see.
