Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Due to the unexpected departure of a coach, I now find myself coaching running backs in a split back veer scheme. I used to coach triple option from the double wing. Any suggestions?
ASAP get a copy of Lou Holtz' book "THE GRASS IS GREENER". His whole splitback veer playbook is in there, as well as position technique sections! It is OP - but you can get it easily thru an "INTERLIBRARY LOAN"!
The basis of the split-back veer is timing and explosion...any drills should emphasize that. Also rep things a million times. I ran a split-back veer in Alaska and found that the more we repped the launch points the better we were. Make sure the backs are hitting the hole 100%, not waiting for the QB, and eyes downfield. It takes time for them to be comfortable taking that quick mesh--especially for outside veer.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
If you can get your running backs to protect the ball and run with the ball without falling flat on their face, you've done your job. Then, if your backs are called on to block, get them to block the right people 100 percent of the time! That's good coaching.
PS. The point method is the best way of exchanging the ball in the veer... Navy doesn't use it because of resistance to change (this was told to me by a Navy assistant).

We use the point method, but one drawback I see is that it hits so fast that it doesn't give the OL time enough to get off their combos to the next level and the LBs either fill or scrape over and make the play. It seems that the ride and decide allows the play to develop a beat longer to allow those blocks to occur. Your thoughts?
