Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
The 3-3 Stack seems to be the "in vogue defense" for high school football in the Midwest. I realize that the Triple is definitely better than the Midline when attacking the 3-3 Stack but if you had to block the Midline versus this front how would you coaches scheme it ?
Our rules applied to a SE Flank would have the C and BSG scoop the NG. FSG combos NG to MLB. FST turns out on the DE (Spur). FSHB clips the hip of Handoff Key and blocks Backer to Safety. The problem is when the Handoff Key (DT) loops outside and QB gives to FB only to have the Stacked OLB fill "B" gap on the FB. Any suggestions ??
Special thanks to Tiger One for always taking the time to share his expetise on this board ! I really value your insights on option footbal as well as football in general.
Denny, I was at Bucknell this spring. They run the triple the same way Navy does. Their offensive coordinator coached with Tim Stowers at Rhode Island before he came to Bucknell. Tim Stowers taught Paul Johnson the triple option. DO NOT RUN MIDLINE VS. A 3-3 Stack! That is the answer that I was given in regards to that question. Even if the fullback reads the center's block vs. the nose, you cannot block enough people to make the play work. Run the triple instead vs. the 3-3 stack. I hope this helped Denny and I look forward to further discussion.

Thanks for your advice. We plan on running the Triple from a variety of formations versus the 3-3 Stack. I have coached enough years to know that you can't take your entire playbook into every game but my interest in the Midline forced me to "research" if there was a scheme that I could incorporate. Great to hear what Navy and Bucknell think !
We send both guards inside looking for a slanting NG up to MLB.Both of our tackles veer release inside.WEDGE BLOCKING.NO,its not MIDLINE in the true sense,but if we call Midline and the defense jumped into a 3-3,this is how we stay with the play.It has been pretty good so far.
Here is a good way that we have had success in running the Midline Vs the 3-3.
C= NG
PSG=MLB
PST= I/S release to Stacked LB. If LB goes o/s, or dissapears, go to FS
PS Slot or HB= Attack Stacked LB. If LB goes i/s or dissapears, go to FS.
P.S.- Navy reads the Stack, they do not block the Stacked LB...he is the Pitch key...Hope this helps.
