coaches,
we are having trouble blocking the rocket toss, we either have a wide 9 giving up problems or if we get him blocked, the safety is giving us problems. need some help
Coach,
I'm unfamiliar with what you call the rocket sweep. We run a type of Toss Sweep out of Double Slots where we put one the slots in motion and then whip him the ball when he's already past the QB. Out of Double Slots, we have the PSSB seal the DE, PST blocks down, PSG pulls out for the CB, and the PSWR cracks the SS. What usually happens is that the CB will choose a side & the RB cuts off him. We have enough sealed backside to get to the edge and downfield.
Adding to this question, I'm wondering if the way we block our pitch would be better if we got the PST on the LB, reached the PSDT with our C. One problem we see is when we get 2 defenders flowing fast and the WR can't crack both of them (the SS & SAM).
PSE- Push crack
PSB- Kick corner
PT- Pull and wall force
PG- Pull inside PT's block and wall ILB
C, BG, BT- Scoop
BSB- Leave on R in Ready (Ready, Set, Hut), receive pitch 2 yards outside PT, and run hash, numbers, sideline
BSE- Crack
QB- Reverse out and pitch ball two yards outside PT to BSB
FB- Block 1st threat off BT

Coach Cella,
In your blocking scheme, do the PST & PSG pull out & cross their D-linemans face? I can picture the PST getting out & climbing but am not sure about the PSG making it past the DE. Can/Does he let the DE come up field and then set-up with the PST?
EC, if you are running veer consistently you will not get DE's crossing the face of the OG or OT. The DE should be taking the dive every, single play. If the DE is the QB player, with the blocking scheme you are currently utlilizing, it is impossible for the defense to stop your dive, because DOUBLE-TEAMED defenders have to stop the dive.
If the DE's are running up the field, why would you EVER stop running veer? That's what we WANT the DE's to do!
If the DE does happen to penetrate when running rocket toss, have the guard stay on the DE until he hears the echo of the whistle. Then come back the very next play and run veer. This is the same thing that Navy does and it's the same thing Bucknell did against us last weekend.
