Hi Coaches
Wanted to throw a quick question out there, what do you do with a Double wing offense running the wedge? This happened to my team playing a 4-4 formation and we got killed. I am also concerned about off tackle. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Assuming you are talkining about a Double Wing team - use at LEAST "8 in the box". Have defensive line charge low & hard. Quick fills by the F/S gives you "9 in the box". The Corners have second containment outside (of the OLBers).
Thanks all for the advice, they played their backs and QB in real tight, my LB's had a hard time seeing anything, I don't believe they pulled their guards, biggest thing that bothered me I have the biggest D-Line in the league and they were tossed around like they weren't even there. I think it was more that 4 guys against that do not work. Anymore thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
We use a 4-4 also, and face a lot of double wing teams that run a wedge. I have my tackles and ends drop into a bear crawl, when they read wedge. The OLBS have contain, and the ILBS come over top. This takes the legs out of the O Line. When the O Line falls the back falls too, or the ILBS coming up make the tackle.
Run the G.A.M. defense coach belive me it works against the double wing. If you cant run it then submarine your linemen, this gives the double wing teams problems .
