Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Looking to hear about any types of draws or reverses, both out of 1 back and 2 back that folks may be running.
Rather than rehash what we run so you may be able to tailor your discussion to this info I'll point you to the FORUM on Installing the Passing Game and you'll see a post by me on SCREENs. If you read through it you'll get an idea of what we run.
I'd also be interested to hear about down and distance and logic on why you call your draws/reverses and when.
A simple "LEAD DRAW" is the single most effective run in the NFL according to a recent survey of all the NFL teams stats for an entire season.
BYU used to run a "DRAW-TRAP" in the 1980's (the year they won the National title they averaged 14+ yds per carry!)
As to REVERSES - the big thing now is to run the Inside Zone & fake the reverse to a WR coming around behind the QB (keeps the BS/DE honest - when the backside EMLOS ignors it - call the reverse to the WR.
Sure, seen the zone reverse a good bit. We don't run zone, so that really doesn't work well for us.
The Lead Draw is something we've used in the past, is that something you always have to do out of two backs or can it be used out of some single back sets with someone else providing the lead capability.
Lead Draw is a play I count on heavily, along with straight power in situations of short yardage and also on goal line. I always ran it out of the "I" or Power "I" formations as I like two back sets.
Now, Bill who is a one back advocate for the last 25 years or so will tell you I am sure that you can use the H back who can align in several different spots in the PSL as a lead blocker also.

CORRECT. We sometimes align him outside the OT to the side we are running the LEAD DRAW & sneak him in on the ILB who (while keying the 1-Back) does not see him until it's too late:
From the H set that Oneback drew up we do several things.
1. 43 Lead, FB slide steps in and leads up the B gap and sting blocks (cuts) the LB.
2. 55 Sweep, basically a weak side stretch Full zone play. FB punches on the DE on his way the the OLB.
3. 49 Pitch, gets the FB closer to his OLB to cut; or can block down on the DE and tackle can BOB out to the OLB.
3a. 43 POP' a pitch play to the TB like 49 pitch, but then the TB cuts up the B gap. (Get the pitch overflow then POP it.
4. 46 Counter, from the H set the FB does not counter step as in tradition counters and comes from the H set.
5. Waggle the FB like out of a Wing T.
6. FB trap from the H set; TB and QB shows pitch.
7. Motion form the H set in or out
8. Bubble the H back or screen it to him like a TE screen
9. In terms of the draw, the H set can get the FB out of the way for the pass look; send him into the flats to pull the OLB. Our line zone blocks by drop stepping and opening weak. They block whats comes across their face outwards. Usually the C or G that is uncovered times it to break up to LB level and aid in the draw.
Don't forget the FB can be in a strong or weak slot. We flip our line: B set = behind the str, A set = away from the str.
