Last night was the end of our season. This is always the toughest day of the year. I usually bounce back the next day, but today is always tough for me to face. It's like I'm rudderless for a day. The kids played tough last night, but we lost. They did a great job of knowing the game plan and played excellently positionally, but we just didn't tackle and that lost us the game. Our kids even forced a time out by the opposing coach because they were calling out the play the other team was going to run due to the formation they were in. They made me proud by how well they had learned it and how they were in position. I just wish they could've finished it off. The Varsity has the biggest game of the year tonight and is already in the playoffs, tonight is for playoff positioning and possibly an undefeated regular season. I am going to help out with Varsity practices during their playoff run, but I still feel rough today. I told a lot of the kids last night that this ending is a new beginning and I really do believe it. It just takes me a whole day to get there. Man, I just read what I wrote and it rambles all over the place. Anyone else have the same type of feelings on the day after?

First off let me assure you I was speaking of noone in particular when you replied and said you had hoped I was not including you in my post of that day, I intended it to just be a general statement. I have admired your zeal every since you started posting here on the forum!
For your question of today: IF YOU ARE A COACH WHO IS MOTIVATED, DRIVEN, STRIVING AT ALL TIMES TO COACH TOWARD PERFECTON WITH THE GOAL OF WINNNG EVERY TIME YOU FALL OUT THERE ON THE FIELD, YOU CAN'T HELP BUT FEEL THE WAY YOU DO TODAY!!! We have all been there. When you quit feeling that way, it will be time for you to move on in pursuit of other endeavors of your life.
You seem to be a very dedicated young coach by the posts that you have offered to the forum here and I would say this to you today: A crushing loss is worth enough time to look at film and evaluate what went wrong, formulate future plans against that team to insure you don't make the same mistake twice, and then put it down. It is not worth beating yourself up over, ever, no matter how devastating the loss was. To dwell on things past is to stifle your progress in mving ahead to bigger and better things!

We finished our season last night as well. My first thought after the game was, "Is the season over already? How did it go by so fast?!" I think we all feel the same way.
In my case, still job hunting, I can't even commit to coming back to this team (yet) so for me it is especially tough.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a full time TA job in the school where I coach. However, I am still searching for that elusive full time TEACHING job. I've been up front with everyone involved and they know I'm actively looking and fully back me in my search. All along they've told me I'm a coach until I give them the word that I've found work elsewhere. They have even told me that if I find a job at a school in the same area they would like to keep me on staff if I was interested. Now that brings about a whole new issue for a different thread if/when the time comes. My advice to you would be to do the same thing I'm doing, commit to them while being fully up front. Noone who is worth anything would begrudge you if you had to leave at any point, even if it was right before the start of the season, because you found a full time job.
