Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know this is not the job board, but I think it is also more of an "honor" question. I want to do the "right thing" and I respect the heck out of you guys and your opinions. Here is my situation...
There is a small to medium sized school (1000 kids) that is starting up a football program next year. It is at a private school and I am unsure about pay, the quality of talent and the admin's committment to excellence.
There is a public school opening almost directly across the street that will have 2500 to 3000 kids. Obviously this school will be starting a program from scratch too.
The community these two schools are in are upper class and with very involved parents and I think I could do some good things fundraising.
Now here is my dilemma. I KNOW I can get a job at the first school. I have someone close to the principal and I am almost guranteed the job. That job hires next week.
Howeverm the other school is my DREAM JOB, but they don't hire until spring. So do I take the first job and then put my name in at my Dream Job? If I get it I would up and leave this brand new program after only a few months on the job. Or do I turn down the first job and hope I get the second one?
I don't want to burn bridges or behave unprofessionally. What should i do?
You always look out for #1 first. Take the guarantee and when the other job becomes available, talk privately to the decision makers of the 2nd job, and let them know your situation. Tell them everything you want/need and see what they think.

My only worry is that the second job will think twice about hiring me, since it looks like I am jumping from job to job and they may think "How do we know he won't do the same to us?
But the truth is, I could see myself finishing my career there.
Before you turn the FIRST job down - ask yourself "how bad do I need the bread on the table"? What might be best for your FAMILY (if you have a wife & kids). Hunger is a great motivator!
Talk with the people that will make the selection latest & tell them you are interested, but the other job is hiring FIRST. IF they REALLY WANT you - they may tell you it is worth your while to wait!
A BIRD IN THE HAND IS USUALLY WORTH TWO IN THE BUSH, BUT NOT ALWAYS! I deal with a lot of young coaches on this forum who feel like they have a job sewed up only to lose out to another candidate
when the final decision is made. MOST PRIVATE SCHOOLS, PAY WAY BELOW SCALE AND ARE MOST OFTEN SADLY LACKING IN TALENT, NOT ALL MIND YOU, BUT FOR THE MOST PART. But, if you can get the HC job at a decent and livable wage, I would say take it by all means. If and when, the other "DREAM JOB" is actually offered to you, then take the advice that says "look out for # 1 because if you don't noone else is going to!" Make a decision based upon fact, not fantasy, at that point. Just my opinion as always.

Exactly the kind of feedback I wanted and expected. Thanks, guys. However, I am worried that by taking the first job and then a few months later applying for the second would hurt my chances of getting the second job. Will a principal or AD think I am not loyal or "flighty" by doing this?
AS WAS SUGGESTED ABOVE, I WOULD TELL THE DREAM JOB OF WHAT YOUR PLANS ARE. WE ALL TEND TO THINK THAT THE WORST WILL BE THOUGHT OF US, BUT IN REALITY THEY WILL GET OVER IT IF YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE AFTER JUST A FEW MONTHS(THE PRIVATE SCHOOL) AND YOU WILL HAVE COVERED YOUR BEHIND BY TELLING THE DREAM JOB OF YOUR PLANS IN ADVANCE SO THEY HAVE NO ROOM TO THINK YOU WOULD BE DISLOYAL IN ANY WAY.
BUT PARDNER, LISTEN REAL CLOSE IF YOU WILL: BEFORE JEOPARDIZING YOUR JOB AT THE PRIVATE SCHOOL BY LEAVING A HC POSITION, I WOULD MAKE CERTAIN THAT I HAVE THE JOB AT THE "DREAM"
SCHOOL SEWED UP TIGHTER THAN DICK'S HAT BAND!!! GET IT IN WRITING THAT YOU HAVE THE JOB!!!
DO NOT DO IT ANY OTHER WAY!!! IF YOU DO, YOU WILL BE LEAVING YOURSELF WIDE OPEN TO HEART BREAK!!! IT WAN'T THIS WAY IN MY TIME, BUT IT SURE IS NOW DAYS!!! ASK LOU CELLA TO TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM WHEN HE FINALLY GOT AN OFFER TO BE A HEAD COACH THIS PAST SEASON AT A SUPPOSEDLY GOOD SCHOOL. IT WILL OPEN YOUR EYES FOR SURE.

Be careful. Be VERY informal about it. It COULD be construed as going behind the backs of your CURRENT employers. You wouldn't want THEM going behind YOUR back talking to other coaches to fill your spot!
I know that I am young to the profession, 4 years all together, with two years as the head jv coach and currently two years as the head coach of the high school, but I am a firm believer in doing the right thing. My advice to you is simple---PRAY ABOUT IT. I don't know your religious background or what you believe in, but most of the weight of decisions like this usually leave me when I pray and forget about the problem. I am not this holier (I think I spelled that right) than thou saint because I sin daily, but I am working on it. What I am is a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.
I believe in loyalty, death before dishonour. I wouldn't want a situation, like Petrino's at Atlanta, following me because it could come back and bite me in the butt. As I tell people all the time it's about eating and being happy. With that said, I would like to pose a few questions: Can you eat your dreams? Can you survive on your salary now in hopes of getting that dream job later? Can you deal with the disappointment if you don't get the dream job and the first school finds out about your job search and immediately terminates your contract? Those are just a few of the questions that popped in my head as I was reading this post.
In the end, my advice is simple follow the MAN...He hasn't let us down yet. Who knows, the private school may end up getting the better athletes to transfer there once they find out that you got the job...
