We had our Football Banquet last night, and I heard some awful news regarding our Quarter Back. About two months ago our local paper was notified by our High School Baseball coach that our QB had verbally committed to UCONN for baseball. Our players parents notified the paper that this was untrue, and a retraction was printed a couple of days later. Turns out that he was offered a 20% scholarship based on his academic achievements not baseball. The harm was already done. All of the schools that had shown interest in him for football now deemed him untouchable. He was Gatorade player of the year in NH, given our state is small, but still his exploits were tremendous over 1,000 yds rushing in the spread offense. All State 3 years QB this year, Safety last year, and WR as a sophomore. One of our coaches travels to D I schools and sells certian type of softwar for football and other sports and he began asking questions why they had lost interest in this player. From what he has concluded it all stemmed from the verbal committment issue. Even though a verbal commitment deosn't prevent schools from contacting him it seems there might be an unwritten rule. I guess his present desicion now is talk to talk to the UCONN baseball coach and ask if he doesn't mind if he walks on at UCONN for football. He has no committment from the UCONN baseball coach and it was his suggestion that he take the 20% scholarship for academeics because he probably couldn't have given him as much as the 20% he was offered. I would like to give his parents another option, but my question to you is do you have suggestions on how to get him back on everyone's radar scope?
