Coach, I have heard of a few places that do light work to get the blood pumping but nothing strenious. Have you heard of people going full out? I know the pro guys love to work up a sweat before going to work!

Seems to me that a good pre-game warmup would serve the purpose. Weight training cause muscles to become engorged (think I spelled that right) with blood and could lead to an increase in lactic acid which could lead to them becoming fatigued. Light cardio would seem to be more helpful i.e. jump rope routine... I'm no expert, just my opinion...
Dynamic stretching which stimulates blood flow into cool muscle tissue, just prior to game time has always been more than enough for my guys. Why waste ANY energy needlessly? Weight lifting tightens the muscle and that is the exact opposite of what you want just prior to kick off!

Monday-Thursday are lifting days. I wouldn't use lifting to get warmed up for a game. Lifting weight is to build muscle mass and strength. The players should have an intensity to their game that builds up during the week, leading to all morning before the game. Let it build up and be unleashed upon the opponent not weights. I've always preferred having a pregame ritual of getting loose with stretching, light agility drills. run through the script on offense and make sure all groups have the right players. (ex punt team, ko, ko return)
For football, no way, certainly not with starters or first rotation people. We let the kids do high box squats the day before, but only because they recuperate from them by game time.
