Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
IZ the RB reads the first DLM to the playside than the very next DLM toward the Center. If #1 DLM goes out he should go in...if he goes in RB goes out. If the #2 DLM goes in he goes out and if the DLM goes out RB goes in.
This would seem to fit in with the OL read. The man next to the covered OL to playside is to combo here. If the the double does not happen in the first step that should mean for him to get up on the LBer because he knows the RB is coming in (the DLM went out). Now this follows for the second read of the RB for the next combo on the OL.
So basically the OL will know where the RB is going since they are all making the same reads...holes open, RB hits with speed and the LBers get covered. Either we get back to the LOS or positive net yards. Does this work?

The reason I ask is I got this notion from Coach Alex Gibbs' video. Now he was talking about what I would assume to be college or pro players. Does this seem possible to teach 7th and 8th graders?

You CAN run Alex Gibbs' Tight Zone & Wide Zone plays with 7 & 8 graders IF you do nothing else (other than teaching pass pro, & you CAN use the same zone techniques on play action except of course uncovered me can't go DF))! He SAYS in his tapes that you must limit your schemes & spend most ALL your time on THESE!
NOTE: OUR philosophy is: “Don’t have too many plays! Run what you HAVE better than your opponent can defend it. Your success will come because of EXECUTION. A lot of coaches are concerned with being “cutting edge” and as a result they do things really average. It is better to do a FEW things really well”!
Here is some Alex Gibbs info we have used:
ALEX GIBBS ZONE TECHNIQUES: O-LINE SPLITS STAY AT 18" (ALIGN OFF THE BALL WITH FINGERTIPS ON CENTER'S SHOELACES):
WIDE ZONE:
A) UNCOVERED: DIAGONAL LEAD STEP WITH NEAR FOOT TO THE HAT OF THE DLM & PUT YOUR HELMET WHERE HIS HELMET IS. BACK FOOT CROSSES OVER ON SECOND STEP. IF HIS HELMET MOVES – YOU ADJUST. IF HE GOES OUT – BY YOUR THIRD STEP YOU CLIMB TO THE Lber. IF HE COMES IN – HE IS YOURS. IF HE HOLDS THE POINT (HANGS) PUSH HIM OUT & CLIMB TO THE LBer.
B) COVERED: LEAD STEP WITH PLAYSIDE FOOT & AIM YOUR FACE FOR THE OUTSIDE SHOULDER OF THE DLM (STAY ON HIS OUTSIDE ½ AND ADJUST - IF YOUR HALF GOES IN – TIGHTEN ON DOWN; IF YOUR HALF GOES OUT – WIDEN; STAY ON LEVERAGE POINT SO AS NOT TO ALLOW PENETRATION).
C) RB: DROP STEP & RUN ON TRACK FOR YOUR LANDMARK - THE BUTT OF THE TE (OR WHERE THE TE WOULD BE) – PRESS THE HOLE. READ HATS OF THE FIRST TWO MEN ON THE LOS COUNTING FROM OUTSIDE-IN (EXCLUDING Lbers). IF THE OUTSIDE MAN COMES IN – YOU GO OUT. IF THE OUTSIDE MAN GOES OUT – YOU GO IN & READ THE INSIDE MAN (RUN OFF HIM). RB IS PERMITTED ONLY ONE CUT, AND LIVE WITH IT! DETERMINE WHERE YOU WILL CUT BY THE TIME YOUR THIRD STEP HITS THE GROUND.
D) QB: OPEN OUT AT 4 OR 8 O'CLOCK & HANDOFF. CARRY OUT GOOD BOOT FAKE OPPOSITE.
TIGHT ZONE:
A) UNCOVERED: DIAGONAL LEAD STEP WITH NEAR FOOT TO THE HELMET OF THE DLM. IF HE HASN’T COME INSIDE OR YOU HAVEN’T MADE CONTACT BY THE FIRST STEP – GO UP ON Lber. (DO NOT CROSSOVER WITH BACKSIDE FOOT IN TIGHT ZONE).
B) COVERED: LEAD STEP WITH PLAYSIDE FOOT & AIMS FOR THE
OUTSIDE # OF THE DLM.
C) RB: FIRST STEP LIKE OUTSIDE ZONE & PLANT, CROSS OVER, & PLANT ON TRACK TO YOUR LANDMARK - THE INSIDE HIP OF THE ON T – PRESS THE LOS. READ THE HAT OF THE FIRST DLM OUTSIDE THE CENTER (NOT COUNTING A SHADE). IF HE GOES OUT OR DOESN’T MOVE – ROLLBACK. IF HE GOES DOWN – READ THE NEXT ONE GOING OUT. DETERMINE WHERE CUT WILL BE WHEN YOU REACH HEELS OF ORIGINAL ALIGN OF ON T.
D) QB: OPEN OUT AT 5 OR 7 O'CLOCK & HANDOFF. CARRY OUT GOOD BOOT FAKE OPPOSITE.
