Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
since you're a pass happy guy who seems to still love option could you share with us your favouite play action pass out of option gun look.i've never had much luck with dropping the QB back after the mesh so that he ends up behind the tackle.never seemed to get the pass off. any other thoughts?or ways of passing out of option look?thanks
doc
One of my favorites out of the empty gun is to have the C receiver, who is aligned halfway between the Y end and the backside tackle(remember, I flip flop my X and Y when in the 3 x 2) go in motion from left to right. QB fakes handoff to him on snap as he motions across, and throws "B POP" to B receiver who is aligned as 3rd receiver on the trips side. Refer back to my alignment at the first of this topic to make sure we are on the same page.
Out of the "I" I used to run "TRIPLE OPTION PASS" WHERE THE qb WOULD FAKE THE DIVE, MOVE DOWN THE , PULL UP BEHIND THE TACKLE AND TAKE A RAPID 3 STEP DROP AND READ THE X AND Y ON STREAKS, FLANKER ON A 10 YD DEEP DRAG ACROSS THE FORMATION. CHECK DOWN WAS ALWAYS THE DIVE BACK WHO AFTER FAKING DIVE WOULD PULL UP AND SQUAT AT 9 YDS. WHEN FS WOULD SEE HE DID NOT HAVE BALL, HE WOULD FORGET HIM AND 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES HE WOULD BE WIDE OPEN IN THE MOF. QB HITS HIM FOR NICE GAIN.

we would always get pressure from the edge when under center doing this.maybe gun will be better cause he's already got some separation( cause i agree its a beauty play esp backside post if you're running option well). should we be blocking it differently.Oline steps to gap playside when we go PA pass. any thots to protect this dropback from the tackle spot better?thanks

If you run ISV right, trap to R left, have PA pass off the trap. You have 3 to protect to the right (C, F, T) and 4 to the left (pulling RG, LG, LT and R as he execute his fake. L runs his pitch path as on triple and trap and becomes the outlet receiver as Coach Easton mentioned. Y and X can run any number of patterns (e.g. X runs off corner, Y drags to vacated area). Also, if L has no one to pick up as he fakes through the hole, he can become a receiver. If you are in Canada, you can have another wide out to the left to run the back side post.
Whatever formation you employ, the point is PA off an effective counter play. Now you have (at least) 3 plays off the same action and a nice little series to run.

The blocking can't be any different because your selling the option first, right? The KEY is to get the entire defense moving LATERALLY. Then, when they have to change direction in order to rush the passer, that gives the QB time to make a successful drop and throw. No doubt, your QB has to be QUICK, but if he isn't then he would not play QB for us as an option guy.
