Good afternoon coaches!
I was wondering, what are some good methods that some of you would recommend to teach 7-9 yr olds (especially beginners) on how to remember their Gap assignments and the Hole lables (A, B....etc.)?
At any level of football, repition is the key to success in anything we teach. Draw it up for them, then take kids that age by the hand and walk them through it showing them exactly what you want them to do,
and THEN REPPING THE DAY LIGHTS OUT OF IT. Be sure and show them the correct tecnique to be used for each assignment, practicing the wrong technique does no good whatsoever, right?

Bill has listed the gap designation system that all levels of football use. The hole NUMBERING system is as follows: A gap is the #2 hole, B gap is the # 4 hole, C gap is the # 6 hole, Outside the C gap is the # 8 hole. THESE APPLY ONLY TO THE STRONG SIDE AS EVEN NUMBERS.
On the backside (weak side) we use ODD NUMBERS ONLY. The C-G gap is the # 1 hole, the G-T hole is the # 3 hole, the T-TE is the #5 hole, outside the TE is the #7 hole.
Most teams give the backs numerical designations as well with the QB being the # 1 back, the FB being the # 3 back, the running back being the # 2 back and the Flanker being the # 4 back.
