Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Coaches, we're considering running cover 2 to the short side of the field and a cover 2 man under look to the wide side versus a gun four-wide set. Have any of you experimented with this? Suggestions? Our first opponent flings the ball all over the field, so we can't consistently play cover 3 or cover 1. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
A nice change up for ushas been to send the man over #2 on the boundary-side, rotate the FS over the top and have an ILB bail out to the same (boundary) side on the snap. We are pretty much in 0 on the field side but USUALLY, the QB will throw to the boundary when he sees a blitz coming from there:
Assume ball on the right hash, $ would blitz off the edge (OK to show it early). On snap, S flys to the curl area looking for an in-breaking (possibly hot) route by #2 (Z). FS is over the top, CB will read #2, if it is a quick out-breaking route thrown to #2, CB should score, if #2 goes vertical, lock on #1.
Obviously, you do not want to go to the well too often but it is a nice call if you pick your spots.
