Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Why do you prefer to line up both of your DTs in 3-techs as opposed to a 2i and a 3-tech as a BASE? I just don't see the advantage.
...it seems to me that its easier to run up the middle against two 3-techs. The guards both have easy cut-off blocks on the tackles, the center's got a clear path to one of the ILBs, and the FBs got an easy path to the other. But with a 2i the center has to downblock the 2i, and the guards gotta pull to get one of the ILBs. That blocking scheme develops slower and is easier for the ILB to read.
OBVIOUSLY, this isn't news to you. But I just can't figure out what advantages you see in your approach? Better pass-rush? Better suited for outside run?
Thanks for any help!

MY reason for doing it is to invite the opponent to run at the bubble created by 2 3's. By doing this you take a lot of perimeter plays away from those fast scat backs! The defenseive interior is coached to collapse inside the instant the hand off is made to the dive back. THAT IS WHY IT IS IMPERATIVE FOR THE LB'S TO LOCATE THE BALL!!!

ADDED THOUGHT--- YOUR THINKING IS EXACTLY WHAT WE TRY TO CREATE BY HAVING OUR 3'S INSTEAD OF OTHER CHOICES, TO MAKE YOU THINK YOU CAN RUN EASIER AT THE BUBBLE. A LOT OF TEAMS OVER THE YEARS HAVE FOUND THE ERROR OF THIS KIND OF THINKING.

What kinds of offenses do you see most often? Fast scat-backs. You're worried about outside runs, so I'm guessing your OLB/SS's are out of the box on WRs a lot.

Our Sam Backer ALWAYS walks out on the # 3 receiver trips side if there is a # 3 who is not a TE in a spread. We have a hard and fast rule that we NEVER BREAK. We are a man coverage team (Bump & run, not turn and run) and the rule is this: 1's are always covered by CB's. 2's are always covered by Tiger Backs(SS'S) and # 3 always by a LB. The CB's align rolled up hard with inside leverage, as do the Tiger Backs and the Sam or Will the same depending upon which side is the trips side when we are in our DALLAS 42 (4-2-5). Fans pay to see the passing game, so we see a lot of that. If they try and spread us out and then run the ball, we have several plans ready for that type of team.

We stack the LB's in 20 techs between the guards and the Tigers at 5 yds off and 5 yds wide. WE MOVE THE LB'S ANYWHERE WE HAVE TO STOP THE BLEEDING SHOULD IT OCCUR. WE HAVE SPECIAL DEFENSES WHERE WE PLAY WITH THE TB'S AND LB'S ALIGNMENTS.

Tell your QB's to concentrate in practice this week on the EXECUTION OF THOSE PLAYS WHICH CONSTITUTE THE MAJORITY OF YOUR OFFENSIVE GAME PLAN. COACH THEM TOWARD PERFECTION IN THOSE PLAYS AND YOU WILL ENHANCE YOUR CHANCES OF STARTING THE SEASON WITH A WIN!!!
A GOOD SCHEME DOESN'T MAKE YOU A WINNER, BUT THE EXECUTION SOUNDLY OF THAT SCHEME DOES!!!

1. Both Tackles in a 3 (called "33" - ILBers in a "10")
2. Both Tackles in a 1 (called "11" (ILBers in a "40I" or "30")
3. One Tackle in a 3 & one in a 1 (called "31" if 3 on TE side; called "11" if 1 on the TE side)! This is our "BASE" & once you have taught this - #1 & #2 (above) are EASY to put in.
4. Both Tackles in a head up 2 (with ILBers stacked behind them - called a "22"). They can slant L or R, pinch inside , stunt (cross-charges), etc.
Ara Parasheigan and Notre Dame knocked Bear Bryant and his Crimson Tide out of the National Championship one year with a great defense he called THE OKIE DOG PINCH. BEAR'S VAUNTED WISH BONE ATTACK WITHERED UNDER A RELENTLESS EXECUTION OF THIS DEFENSE THAT DAY.
For those of you who still face the Bone or other 3 man backfields, I'm going to ask ONE BACK ( coach Bill Mountjoy) to break it down for us as he is much more well versed in the defense than I am.
So watch the posts that will be coming as soon as I can get Bill to comply. He is very busy this time of the year.
