Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Anything c gap or tighter can cause problems. A mike backer that knows what he is doing can really mess things up, slanting the line can help too. We have a call that allows our dl to penetrate into the backfield in their gap responsibility and we have had succcess with that against any offense that pulls alot. If the guard can't get to the kick out then there is usually a man standing in the hole.

I agree 100% that the backside DL need to do just as you described. As LBs, we cannot count on them making the play for us every time though and we need to be sound in our reactions as well.
The man who makes it work is the play side ILB. He must get a good read and attack the LOS with his horse saddled. We expect him to drive off his inside foot and put his inside shoulder through the second puller. His aiming point is the spine of that second puller. This should force the RB back inside toward the backside DT who is chasing as you say and the other ILB who fits inside that second puller.
Some try to spill the play to the outside and chase it down out there. That approach can be sound, especially for the cover 2 teams who have the CB out there to spill it to.

Those of you who run a 4-2-5, let's talk a little defense for a change up here on the forum. One of the coaches asked just recently how do I adjust to an unbalanced line formation? Diagrammed below is what I came up with years ago that has worked quite well for us over the years. WE CALL IT 42 GREEN AND IT IS DESIGNED AS A TYPICAL SHIFT TO STRENGTH. Our 42 regular alignment in the PSL has a 5 and a 3 on the backside, a 3 and a 7 on the front side, the two backers between the guards at 4 yds, our twin safties that we call TIGER BACKS are in the flats at 3 yds off the LOS and 5 yds wide, our corners are rolled up hard with inside leverage playing bump and run, and our FS in the MOF at 10-12 yds. Knowing that, the changes for this 42 Green become self evident.
TO BE EASILY UNDERSTOOD YOU WILL NOTE THAT I PLACED THE 4i AND THE 7 ON THE OUTSIDE TACKLE AND THE TE, AND NOT THE INSIDE TACKLE. IF YOU WANT THE TECHNIQUES TO BE REALLY CORRECT, THE 4i would be on the inside tackle, etc.
