Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are playing a team this weekend that runs wishbone option, sometimes they go unbalanced. When unbalanced they like to run dive option to the short side and a counter play where the fullback and halfback away from the play counter step to the heavy side, qb reverses out and hands it to the halfback to the play side who basically runs a dive, they like to cross block at the point of attack. They killed us with this play last year. They also like to run lead to the heavy side. 3 questions, in Okie Dog, we should kick to the heavy side right? Also what should I tell my backers to read? Last question, aside from tackle him before he leaves the bacfield, any suggestions on defending fullback routes from the backfield?
2ND QUESTION- READ THROUGH THE GUARDS TO THE BALL. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO LOCATE THE BALL AND THEN NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF IT!!!
3RD QUESTION- THAT IS WHERE LOCATING THE BALL BECOMES CRITICAL AS THE LBS HAVE TO COMMIT TO THE RUN, BUT IF PLAY ACTION DEVELOPS THEY MUST BE ABLE TO RUN WITH BACK OUT TO THEIR SIDE.

The counter dive to the nub side will not go vs ODP. They cannot cross block it unless the center reaches the DT who is now over the OG, pinching to A after you have adjusted.
On passing downs, have your outside guys peel with a back out their way. This will allow LBs to concentrate on the the FB or HB) releasing up the middle. Have your scout team rep this several times to get them aware.

Thats what i figured, we have done that in the past with other defenses and they wait to see how you adjust and run what's best against it. That counter dive has killed us, after taking a look at the ODP against it we are about as sound as you can get. Thanks for the help.
Hey coach, one last question, when they run option they like to send the playside halfback wide to seal whoever you have playing the pitch, they try to run wherever you don't go, if you try to play a true contain with your end they try to hit it inside, if you spill it there isn't really anyone out there to get the pitch man, I figure the corner should be basically running the alley and playing option like a safety would, helping over the top, but they love to throw to the TE. We are telling our end to come off the corner as hard as he can and make it turn up ASAP and beat the block from the halfback, any other ideas? Also, c gap player has q responsibility and end has pitch man right.
SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THEY HAVE A WELL COACHED TEAM!!! YOUR SALVATION IS GOING TO BE NOT SO MUCH IN YOUR SCHEME, BUT IF YOUR KIDS CAN OUT PLAY THEM OR NOT!!! REMEMBER, SCHEMES DON'T WIN, EXECUTION DOES!!! YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO BE BETTER THAN THEY ARE!!! GOOD LUCK COACH.

It sounds from your post like you are using the Ends as the contain guys and the safeties as the pitch guys. All you have to do is have the $ play man on the TE while maintaining inside leverage and preventing his release on an ILB (just like 46). Now your strong CB is free to run the alley and you are sound vs pass.
Added thought: I do not know if the above is even necessary. If the contain guy (E above) attacks that lead blocker and collisions him while maintaining outside leverage, there is no room for the QB and pitch back to maintain proper relationship. The qb will have to pitch early or pitch too close to the back, either way you should be fine.
I would play it straight first and have this adjustment in your holster if needed.

We opened against a predominantly Power-I team this year. They gave up on that formation entirely in the 3rd quarter having scored no points and with precious few first downs. The got us once out of another formation in the fourth to ruin the shutout. We won 22-8. The game really could have gone either way without the ODP.
Thanks again coach.
